I think it is up to the individual and if they really want to die not having a doctor help isn't going to stop them. If the person wants assistance from a doctor so they can die peacefully under sedation or by whatever method they wish then that is their right. I don't think a doctor should ever mention to a patient, but if the patient requests it on their own it is ok.

I'd rather watch a loved one who has a serious, incurable and very painful illness, die with dignity and in peace than to let them live and know that they are suffering so very much. I just couldn't wish that sort of suffering on my worst enemy, let alone someone I feel affection for.

In some cases Yes but not on the intent to satisfy those demonic instinct of claiming a life for no good reasons. In some cases, why prolong or lengthen the agony of a bed ridden person, when he/she deserves a rest.
No matter how bitter and difficult to swallow - I believe if that person can speak in behalf of his/her state, he/she will say "come on, go on unplugged that apparatus - I'll be fine" maybe we're not bound here, not in this earthly place.
If we are created in this mortal flesh, subject of sorrow & departing and many more by a supreme being, then there's a place certain yet known to be unknown in that afterlife where everything goes on and lives well.
