How do finger nails grow so quickly?

My nails are hitting the keys as I type and driving me crazy. It seems like I just cut them not that long ago and they are already too long again. Even at only 1/8 of an inch they are getting in the way. When I was younger long nails was a big deal; now that I am older, keeping them trim is just another one of those tedious grooming tasks. I don't paint my nails because I use my hands a lot and the manicure will almost always get messed up right away or I will end up with a nail polish streak on something I am working on. I know that in reality it takes them a couple weeks to grow out again after I cut them, but it always seems as if it's overnight. Some people cut their nails all the way down to the edge of the nail bed. It almost looks as if they bite their nails. I like a tiny sliver of nail on my finger, maybe 1/16 of an inch. How often do you trim your nails?

I trim them when they break, well, my finger nails anyway... the toe nails are a whole other thing... I trim them when I notice they are getting really long and I start worrying they will ruin my socks.

You are so funny! Perhaps it's the company you keep (claws). I hate having a nail snag or break, especially if the tear is close to the nail bed. It's very unpleasant.

I try to be amusing - beats being serious! I need to grab a few cats and start trimming. The last time I did some trimming we had nails flying everywhere!

Hi Canellita, May be I sound dirty, but I don't remember trimming my hand nails so much. There is no specific gap between the two successive times I trim my nail. I trim my nail, whenever I see the nail cutter near me. At other times, I think I unconsciously bite it off while I am doing some other things lol... Happy Mylotting..

I don't think that sounds dirty, I think you just don't think about it. I probably wouldn't either, but I spend so much time typing that I can't help but notice when my nails start tapping on the keyboard.

Hi! I usually shorten my nails with a file, I avoid to cut them because I want to keep their shape. I use the file regularly, sometimes once a week or maybe twice. This way they always have a medium length. I don't like very long nails because it's not convenient for me and I always paint them with a nail polish because I have the habit to bite them when I'm stressed and if I cut them too short without painting them, I will start biting them again! From time to time I visit my manicurist for a teatment and a full manicure to keep them healthy and cut the hard edges around the nails.

I used to shape my nails regularly with an emery board so that I wouldn't have to cut them. Now I maintain the shape with the nail cutter. It save time reshaping them with the file (emery) afterward. Instead I can use the less abrasive side to smooth the edges of the nail.
