My Computer has started to hang

My Desktop Computer just started acting strangely as of yesterday! It hangs and restarts automatically and the mouse has become hypersensitive.I'm operating a Dell Optiplex GX270 running on Windows XP.Anyone with an idea on what might have caused this problem and possible ways of fixing it please share the information. Thanks in Advance!

If you have Original XP version firstly you have to switch on your automatic update in control panel and see whether it getting updates. then you can follow under mention steps to speed up your system.
1. go to RUN
2. Type- msconfig -enter
3. in the property box select - startup
4. unchecked the all start up items
5. restart the system
it will speed up definitely

I have the same problem last month where the mouse was misbehave, i thought that it was temporarily, but it turn out that mouse can cause the whole computer to hang.... i found out after i hear some noise if i plug my mouse in usb port near the sound interface, so i replace the mouse and everything is work out just fine now...
