I come from China, and there is something crazy about iphones.
first of all, let me show you some datas. In our country the average salary is about 2,000 yuan(330$), the average price of an iphone is about 5,000 yuan (830$).and the cost of a haircut is about 10yuan(1.7$)
However the high price cannot stop apple fans from buying it. you can see iphones in China.some friend of mine tight their belt for several months to buy an iphone, how crazy?
what's the situation in your country?

Yes iPhones is the talk of the town especially among the youngsters. Those from well off families pester their parents to buy iPhones just wanting to be in vogue with the latest technology. It is a blessing that I am a little old fashion and slow in catching up with all the features of any latest gadgets in town. I am quite contented using my Samsung galaxy exploring the net.

Iphone is also all in rage in Philippines as well. a lot of people buy this for status symbol. I understand why businessmen need high-end phone but these days even my 3-year old niece is already glued to Ipad.My sister-in-law bought this for her and says that the Ipad makes my niece behave.

Yeah I think she's smart. But sometimes, I find her a little creepy because she doesn't behave like a 3-year old girl does. She knows a lot at her age.She already knows how to download and to use skype to call her grandparents. She has memorized the dialogs of the cartoons she watches from her Ipad.

I think most of the people who buy iPhone to show off rather than taking advantage of it well. In fact I don't even think the iPhone system is good. I prefer to the Android cellphone much more. Especially I dislike to provide my credit card information to Apple so that I can sign up an account of iTune. And I can't use my iTune account in another computer and this is quite inconvenient. I can list a lot of disadvantages of iPhone. But people are crazy about it and I don't think they are wise enough

Yeah. Android is also a good choice.and i think peole all around the street use the same iphone makes me feel dull. The reason why the world is so colorful is that we do have different choices.
To be honest, iphone is very attracted to me ,both the hardware design and the software experiences, yet the biggest disadvantage is the high price. So I would choose an andoid phone instead, Nowdays I'm thinking about buying xiaomi,m2,is amazing!!!

I live in U.S. & it's pretty popular here... A lot of people have one & it reminds me of a joke... "You are unique just like the rest of the world!"... I personally don't like iPhone but that's not to say it's not a good phone... I think every phone out there is good for somebody, or I should say there's phone out there for everybody... My problem is with the people who get the phone for no other reason than that of "everybody else has one!"... What needs could a 16 year old girl possibly have that she needs an iPhone... I understand at that age when she's about to start driving, having a cell phone isn't that bad of an idea... I work part time as a translator... It's pretty small company, roughly 1,700 employees, but we do rely heavily on communication... The owner of the company has little flip phone he bought about 8 years ago... He gets somewhere around 500 - 700 emails a day... If anybody, I figured he needs a smart phone... I myself have simple slide phone... I go through a lot of emails & text messages a day & roughly 2,500 - 3,000 minutes of voice calls every month... I have an iPad 2 & that takes care of all the email issues... My phone works great for text messages & phone calls... I don't really need a smart phone... But yet I see people using phones for entertainment purposes, like it's their own toy... And it may be for some people, a toy... I don't listen to music, watch videos or play games on my phone so I don't need any of that... Just a thought, I've seen a kid who works in McDonald making burgers 12 hours a week carrying iPhone... Really? Why? But hey, whatever floats his boat...

Perhaps the price in America is not a big deal , but in our country it will cost more than two months' salary. That's so crazy, I'm telling you a hororable but true story, a high school student sells one of his kidney in order to buy an iphone!
how crazy!

I guess it's part of human nature to want the latest and 'best' things in life. The late Steve Jobs has done a tremendous job in introducing and promoting Apple products especially iphone to the world. To me an iphone is good quality but I think it's over priced. I shall wait for the price to drop before I get one.

It is worth waiting, yet you present a number of apple fans,I think that's a rational attitude.
but waiting for a phone is like waiting for a woman, the result is amazing, but time may drive you crazy.

It's not just China - people line up everywhere for these phones. I know people here in Australia who stood in line for 24 hours to get the phone! That sounds crazy. Why not just wait for 2-3 days and get it easily when the crowds become less - or buy it online.
Just people these days are tech-crazy and always want to have the latest gadgets. People buy and throw away cell phones every year!

i think iphone is a trend and so if people see it on tv they want it because they think it is a must or if you haven't a gadget like that you are totaly out!!Anyway i never bought an iphone and i never desidered to buy one in my opinion is too expensive and it is just a smartphone not a big deal as apple trying to say you...in my country there are people, who are apple fan, so they love iphone but in majority of cases people understood this is an expensive toy and so it won't worth i think that in relation to the first version of iphone its popularity decreased...naturally in china is quite new gadget so may be people are so curious and want buy it but considering the price you described in relation to normal life it sounds like a fool shopping...in the euro zone iphone can cost even 700 or more euros....so you can make the conversion and tell if it is not a big exaggeration...

Hi,
There are lots of choices for the meantime that iPhone has not yet penetrated the mainstream society here. Aside from its prohibitive cost that only the upper class could afford, most of them are quite content to have a basic mobile phone that can send/receive text messages and calls. The bells and whistles and other extras are not important at all for that matter.

I quite agree with you. The consumption should be based on their incomes , and most of the seldom use other funtions beside text messages and calls, they just want to show off

Here in the philippines, many of my schoolmates are also having this craze but not only limited to apple products. Most of students here already have Touch screen gadgets, phones and even laptops. What makes me laugh or even judge is that, most of students having those sorts of gadgets just took them for granted without appreciating what they have.

I can totally understand your situation,an investigation shows that if apple produce breads, most apple fans would buy them, just bcs of the brand "apple"
