Today i want to your opinion and thoughts on my question that why this world is insulting Islam on the name of freedom of speech. Being a Muslim it hurts me so much. i never support violence in return but i want to know that
1. why there peoples got caught and imprisoned when they speak about holocaust in europe.
2. why British are so oppressed when their royal family's topless pics got printed by french paparazi.
3. Why most of the europe is against veil and headscarf while Christians and jew religious nuns also practice it but they are blaming only Islam.
4. Why peoples in west dont blame Christianity instead of norwegian killer anders breivik while they blame Islam for Osama Bin Laden. Why dont west treat Osama as a mental patient.
I am here to discuss and to understand your side of picture so dont be loud and offensive towards anyone or any religion. I respect others and hope that other should also respect mine.

I feel your pain, as I am a pagan, wicca, and we have been hunted throughout history. We live very 'underground'. Even Islam, your religion dislikes us (I would never set foot in certain Islamic countries, as they kill wiccas there). So you have to see it from all points of view. you feel bad, and I can understand this, yet their are wiccas who if caught in Islamic countries, would be killed for their beliefs. In other words, Islam wishes respect for it's beliefs, yet would probably kill a wicca in their own country if they traveled there and were discovered. See, Islam has no respect for my belief. In other words, this is and always has been the way of the world, until we all wake up and learn to truly respect and tolerate one another.
This is a film, and film is considered art. For example, take a look at Monty Python's "Life of Brian", many christians were protesting that film. Martin Scorses's 'Last Temptation of Christ' Tons of Christians protested that.
As you can see with just the above 2 films, it's not just Islam, there have been many films that Christians have protested against. If you want to be part of the world, then this is what is part of it.

I can tell you my friend no religion dislikes anyone. its only the human interpretations that has created problems through out the world. Does any religion talk about violence. But all the violence in this world is based on religion. We need to shed our inhibitions and learn to live together in peace and harmony.

Firstly I am a Brit and don't care a jot about the pics in some French magazine.
Christian nuns do not wear veils only a headscarf, British culture is one that values face to face contact a veil prevents that and more importantly no one is saying you should not wear a veil in your own country
People are not imprisoned for talking about the holocaust only censured if they deny it. And to deny it is to deny the truth, there are people alive that witnessed it and photographic evidence, so much evidence it is rationally undeniable
If you would ban any thing that is offensive to a religion then you would ban Muslims for speaking about Jesus because to say that Jesus is just a prophet or was not crucified and resurrected then that is offensive to Christians.
So, either we have free speech and Muslims are free to speak what they believe to regarding Isa or we have laws to protect Muslims sensibilities that also censor Muslims when they speak about Jesus

You have a rational point in your statements. But the problem is with its implementation. Now some of the countries where rules are strict, their dictatorship is on the high and even localites suffer just like foreigners. Can we enforce such a thing in our country. No we cant bear autocracy and so we do have to make compromises. Dont you think it would be unfair to blame the whole community for the acts of some lunatic.

It is not about blame it is rather a practical arrangement. The problem is, as you say, with autocratic leaders

it is all a matter of perspective. You are right in that I forget his name but he was jailed for denying the holocaust. However, he was trying to stay history did not happen.
The truth of the matter is that some WEsterners are afraid of muslims and so you get all these stories of fear.

This happens because of lack of direct interaction. Media has created such an impression that all of the people are demons. We dont understand they also have families brothers mothers and fathers. Media sensationalise issues for their profits and the society happens to be on the loosing end.

Hi rockydam, I understand what you feel, every self respecting muslim must be going through this just because a few calling themselves jihadis or whatever else hold nations to ransom and threaten the peace of the entire world.Given the circumstances isnt it natural for all countries to unite towards those bad elements? here it is against anti socials and criminals that people are against not against muslims.I have many muslim friends and I discuss this with them and they feel as passionately about the issue of terrorism as anybody else.
As far as the issue of head scarf is concerned it is the choice of a nation to do what it has to do and I am sure they have a valid reason for it. We cannot blame Saudi Arabia for being ruthless about the way they treat other religious people and their symbols because it is their policy .I had an experience of that when I flew to Jeddah, a small statue of Ganesha and a copy of Bhagavadgita I had in my suitcase was dumped into the waster paper basket by the customs, so when there is such intolerance against other religious beliefs which don't even hurt them , what is the big issue about some disciplinary measures taken in the larger interest of the nation..
Also everyone , living there is forced to wear head scarfs in most Islam nations , so doesn't that affect a persons freedom ?

Hello Kiran, unfortunately this is the problem with our world. One person can tarnish the image of an entire community. Some people in a community turns out to be extremists, but the society banishes the whole community. I can only imagine the agony and insecurity people would be feeling to live in such a condition.

I respect your opinion and hope your respect ours too. There has been many movies before that has been considered offensive or insulting to Christians, Jews, Buddhist, and many other religions not only Islam. There also a lot of movies not shown in our country because this movies are said to be offensive to Christianity.
A lot of Christians protested so movies like this not to be shown on theaters but no violence as far as I can remember. Every religion has the right to protest and protect their religion but I think it is not right to kill innocent or prejudge someone guilty because someone offend your belief.
And As far as I can see and read, no one blame Islam for Bin Laden.
If one Christian, offends any religion, this is the doing of an individual and not of whole Christianity and also this does not give you the right to mock or insult all Christians or any religion.

The problem is not with the movie, the problem is how it has been interpreted. i really dont know if the director intended to insult a religion. if he did, i would say his work should be banned because communal harmony comes above any person's freedom of speech.Otherwise we shouldnt fall trap to some gossips and take up arms. Nobody has ever gained anything by violence.

I am a Christian but i share your sentiments. We all know that each and everyone of us has his own knowledge and belief and so this issue is not an exception. Just live peacefully and go with the flow as long as you do no harm to others.

I appreciate you words of care and concern. I hope everyone would share your sentiment and make this place a better place to live in. Inspite of so many violence and bloodshed, we fail to realise that we are setting a bad example for the future generations.

I understand your concern and your disappointment. Its the lack of trust between communities that has caused this unsettlement. You talked about banning of weils in west. How about ban on theatres on Saudi Arabia. There every woman has to wear a burqua. Dont you think it is offensive for them. So its hard to blame a country or people for some law. All religions have certain customs and we should respect that. But we cant enforce a religions law on other people also. Both are bad. But brother, I feel this whole world of misunderstanding would soon disappear. The cultural divide will finally end and I hope a peaceful world would emerge.

Hello rocky. You have ask some very hard questions. It is not the world that is insulting Islam. It is a few ignorant worms that have no respect for anything or anyone. In my country we have had people that take Christ and desecrated the pictures with poop and it was called art. The laws in my country are different from those in the European communities. If we curb one type of speech then we eventually put a stop to any one saying any thing against every thing. It is a slippery slope.

Hi there fella!! I would like to participate in your discussion but first let me explain to you and every one else in mylot the meaning of "FREEDOM OF SPEECH" as I have researched freedom of speech refers to political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas through the use of speech .The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but sometimes includes act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas regardless of the medium used.In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, as with libel, slander, obscenity, copyright violation and incitement to commit a crime. In my own understanding everyone here in our world has his rights to speak of what he or she is think is right and just. But there are instances that those rights became wrong when you are in a different country so you have no choice but to abide by the laws in that country. As per reading your statement.,those incidents happened not in the Muslim countries right so we cannot question them either because in some countries there are rules and laws and foreigners in those countries should also know those rules so that they won't break them even if you are not a muslim or not.Same goes if a foreigner goes to a Muslim country right? You have laws that foreigners or visitors in your country didn't know about and that they will abide by those laws if they only knew about it.Some people with different religion often make those mistakes and it's not that they are insulting other religion as well it takes a matter of good speech to be able to spread their law and understand it by the visitor or foreigner that is what I think should be done first before saying that some are insulting the Muslims or Islam

The problem is certain countries do have a strict law and that does curb the freedom of expression. i am not a big fan of that policy. But the problem is instead of showing up the resistance there, we try to show up in other parts of the world and it causes trouble. We have to understand that an eye for an eye is never a solution for a problem.

The British didn't go to french Embassies and burn them or dragged the french diplomat to have them killed, they were just "UPSET" but they are public figure therefore they should be more careful what they do out side. Why do we blame Christianity?nope these people chose to be this way and not because of religion, he was nuts. As for the holocaust, the vintage recordings says it all.
I never had a problem with Islam? however, I am concern with some of your brothers and sisters who really want violence in the name of ALLAH. though, in the past some brainwashed Christians are used to kill pagan practices, we don't do that now a days...

There are offensive people in every religion. To ridicule and mock others is wrong no matter who doesw it. Until we all realize that all cultures and religions are guilty it won't stop. We all tend to defend our own, but we all must try to get along and be reasonable.

The problem is people misuse freedom of expression. there is a saying that your freedom ends where my nose comes in. We have freedom of expression doesnt mean we can ridicule anyone. This attitude has to change.

It is because some tribes judge the whole tribe , a mistake of one is a mistake of everyday and all got to pay for it . This is the very very sad thing that is happening around . It is so unfair but we can't do anything, they have reasons also that couldn't be understood by the other party . Some powerful countries looks less in an underdeveloped countries , they have in this concept that they are superior in all aspect. So sad they forget humanity. They forgot that they are like us , human being also , needs to be respected and be heard.
