Both of these can be to a nearby and easy to get to city either abroad or in your home country. I live in England and for other Brits I recommend cities in Belgium. Luckily there are budget flights to other destinations so further away destinations would also be possible.
Friday can be a pricey day to fly or travel by train. A midweek day can have a cheaper fare. A trip Monday to Friday in a half term can be lovely for parents and their kids. I like to stay in a locally owned guest house that has low prices.
Have you gone away for a weekend somewhere?
If you had a free five day visit which destination would you choose?

I live in the Philippines. Normally when I get the chance to be away from my work, my family and I would pay a visit to my parents. Our province is just 4d minutes away by plane. I love going back there especially when there's a ticket sale- which happens most og the time. I hope I'll get the chance and resources to travel out of the country. I will surely tour Europe

Last year my husband I went on a weekend trip in the south of Denmark. We stayed in a town called Haderslev and it is a beautiful place. Our hotel was close to a lake and in the evening we spent the time near the lake. Sunday morning we left the hotel and drove around in the area for a while. We visited Soenderborg which is a charming town with a castle and many old houses. We also visited Augustenborg and Christianfeld. In the Augustenborg there is an art gallery and a park with many interesting sculptures. We went for a walk in the park and we enjoyed looking at the different sculptures. Chrisitianfeld is famous for a special kinds of cakes and we bought some of those cakes while we were there.
This year we went on a weekend trip to Bogense. My husband had to take a course there and while he was away I explored Bogense. It is relatively small town and there are many nice old houses and interesting shops. We lived in apartment and on each side of the apartment there was a lake. I enjoyed the view from the apartment and I also went for a walk in the area around the apartment.

If I had the money right now then I woud go to Rome. I went there once but did not savour all there is to see. I just loved being in this city and wish that I could return one day. But I am returning home to Jamaica in a week's time so that in itself will be eventful.

I usually go for the weekend to an aunt`s house or to a friend`s house two hours away from the city where I live. If there is a week and I can get a friend to go with me, there are wonderful one week journeys within the country at a very small price for seniors.
