Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me

I am a little sick of people over reacting to what is said. Someone insults something a person believes in and they react by killing someone, that is so gay, it is unbelievable. People are reacting like little girls that burst into tears and have a temper tantrum when someone says something they don't like. What cultural input engenders such lack of maturity? All the best, urban

But here I see words are thought to hurt somebody.. "Washington sought a retraction Thursday from an Algerian newspaper that linked the slain US ambassador to Libya with the US-based producer of a movie mocking Islam that has sparked protests around the world. The US embassy in Algiers said Ambassador Chris Stevens, killed with three other Americans in an assault by an angry mob on the consulate in Libya's second city Benghazi, had no connection to the film..... The US embassy urges Ennahar to retract this article and photo and not spread rumours that may result in misunderstanding and a violent reaction ...." http://www.nowlebanon.com/NewsArticleDetails.aspx?ID=438647

Let me put it this way... Why the 'Free Speech Champion' US is worried about somebody's words ? After all words are never going to hurt!! Or is ti double standard as always? Your words won't hurt but my words will hurt!!

Sometimes, for what someone has said is not pleasant to the ear, they mean you no harm,on the contrary, there is something in what they said,if you come to think of it.One ought to live and let live and have a big heart rather than liking flattery.

You're right; it's childish. If that's all there was to it, we could chalk it up to only immaturity, but when people are manipulated by those who have deep hatred in their hearts, it becomes more barbaric than immature. It's a base, ugly, hellish situation that hurts everyone, including those who hate.

I think in some cases it's just an excuse to behave badly and imagine others think you have grounds for it.

Sadly enough, this is the society as it is now. They are easy to be offended and the first thing that would ever come to their mind is to lift their fist and punch someone who disturb his or her feeling either intentionally or unintentionally. This can be the influence of what the people see from the movies and surroundings.
