I am trying to lose weight and get fit. I was told to cut down my carb intake and eat healthy.. As eating rice has always been my staple, I am finding it hard to get full on just salads and protein. What can I use to substitute so that I will feel full and not have need to munch in between meals?

Give up the "white food" (pasta, rice, potatoes)and eat brown rice, sweet potatoes, and whole wheat pasta. Also some days, you could replace those carbs with the healthy carbs(legumes like beans, chickpeas,Qinoa, orzo). Also do not completely cut them out, just eat smaller portions,Between meals eat some nuts(careful with the amount because even they are healthy, they have calories. Also apple, celery, pear, with a tablespoon of nut butter(peanut,almond...)or a little piece of cheese, will help. Good luck!

I was thinking of switching to brown rice but haven't had a decision to get any.. i think that is definitely the way to go.. which is better? to switch to brown rice or just have wholemeal bread instead? i hear that some veggies are also high in carb? are those good carb or bad carb?

Brown rice is better, but s slice of wholewheat bread once in a while is OK,Carbs in veggies are good carbs, and you need them for energy.Usually try to eat 1 ingredient foods( that is simple food)and keep away from stuff in boxes or wrapped(those usually have a lot of funny name ingredients)You can't read it you don't eat it.your food does not have to be bland, spice it up!Garlic, turmeric, cayenne and many other spices are full of antioxidants.

i don't know if you have a type of banana (which we call saging na saba) or sweet potatoes (which we call kamote) where you are located, but you can steam or boil them instead of frying. i don't know if you have canned mackarel but i prefer them instead of canned tuna. it has a fishier smell, but i find it tastier.

One banana a day is ok,healthy and satisfying. Also sweet potato, baked whole,or sliced and baked with spices on it are excellent.Do not put butter or sour cream on it!

Try tofu as a replacement for meat. Eat tuna instead of pork meat.

Someone told me that brown rice is healthier than white rice. And I read a discussion here that it contains less sugar so it is preferable for diabetics. I am not sure how good of a substitute it is to lose weight, though.

There is a sushi place I frequent here that does it for their sushi... It tastes pretty good, and quite popular among their customers too. They are always the first to run out for the day before the ones with regular rice.

Same here. I can't resist eating rice and I want to be more fit. It's just so hard and I don't have the discipline.

Try to increase your fiber intake. Fiber also fills you longer so you don't get hungry sooner.

If you want to lose weight and be fit, you need to eat a healthy diet. It is not good to totally cut down on carbs coz it is one important nutrient that our body needs. You may still eat carbs and be healthy by just consuming a minimal amount each meal. You may also want to try eating wheat bread to replace rice. Or you may also wanna try pasta with minimal sauce.

Thanks for you input.. i am trying to substitute rice with something else as I understand that is the culprit.. I also never exercise and lead a sedentary lifestyle so am trying to use the stairs instead of the elevators to start. What is the recommended intake of wheat bread?
