Thursday, 20 September 2012, is another big day in Jakarta as the second round of governor election takes place. The candidates include Foke-Nara the incumbent (previous governor) and Jokowi-Ahok (the emerging figures from outside Jakarta). The results of quick count were out few hours ago and the candidate Jokowi-Ahok won the election with 50-58% based on various results shown in various survey institutes. The citizens of Jakarta and even other cities are excited about this result as Jokowi seemed to be different from regular politicians and have promised to bring about a 'new Jakarta'. What do you guys think? Are you confident that this candidate will be able to bring about a better Jakarta? What do you think are the reasons for their victory? Share your stories and opinions here :)

Yes, I do agree that this victory is a well-defined example of the power of the people are stronger than political parties. This is Jakarta's victory, it shows that Jakarta is indeed a city with multi-ethnicity and those people who are racist, attacking people based on their race and religion will not get very far here. The citizens are smart, they know who the truly qualified leader is ;)

Well, a successful attempt will always draw copycats, there's nothing surprising about it. Sadly, i feel that people will be more sympathetic if the candidates come with their original ideas, rather than copying from other people's attributes. Actually from which province do you come from? Because this piece of information is new for me, I just heard about it from you. :)

Jokowi and ahok must work hard and quickly
they get many challenges..they should work effective and efficient in 100 first days..
The problem of flood, traffic jam, public transportation, security issues and many things are the common problems in Jakarta

Arround a week after get elected, He drive a motorcycle without helmet.
A police stop Him, while didn't know that He is a Major.
The police offered Him to pay instead giving a "tilang" ticket.
He paid the money, but He write the police tag number.
The other day after that, He call that police commander and told about what happens.
He done that on purpose to prove that there are lot of durty cops. They make illegal operation every day and night to get money.
After that day, there are no illegal operation again.
There are many other thing that makes Him get respected from the Solo citizens.

Me too. :) I think that should not happen now, because the other candidate already admitted his defeat and asked his supporters to give their full support to the new establishment in Jakarta. We have a high expectation from him, but I think he'll be able to meet up to it. :) Anyway, you are from Solo then? I am curious about his works in Solo, I mean, I heard it all over the news, but the way I see the citizens of Solo support him very much to the extent of having parades and such things, that's just.. special. Actually what made the people of Solo really love him that much? :)

I think we must congratulate the first to Jokowi-Ahok..
but this is the quick count result
but it is enough for indicating that The jakarta people are tired with the promise from Foke...
Foke is failed and the society punish him with didn`t choose him in general election
it`s simple but effective..

Yes I agree. Quick count definitely is very useful since we can know the results just hours after the election. The results must be accurate, after all, the credibility of the organizations responsible for the quick count is at stake. Imagine if the results differ and Foke wins, I guess there will be ruckus and people will blame these organizations for providing incorrect and misleading data. haha.

Indeed. Quick count results are accurate enough I think, maximum 1-2% difference can be expected, and the results showed that Jokowi won by more than 3%, so I think victory is assured. I am a big supporter of Jokowi, and I agree that Foke had failed in his era, but I commend him for his act of admitting his defeat and congratulating Jokowi. I think that's quite respectable.

Congratulations to couples Jokowi-Ahok.
I think this result is not surprising because in the first round-Ahok Jokowi can beat a couple Foke-Nara. It may be quite an encouraging result for many people because they want change in Jakarta after failing Foke his role as governor. I think it might be able to fix Jokowi-Ahok Jakarta, Jakarta if Jokowi could lead more than when leading Solo, Jakarta may be more advanced.

so it makes many current governor or major are afraid about the same or similar situation which happen in jakarta and maybe happen in their city or province..
It`s like italy terms..Vini Vidi Vici
come, play and win..
It`s jokowi style..He comes from Solo, stay maybe 1 or 2 days in jakarta and then back to the solo...
he never know much about Jakarta..But he is more well-known by jakarta citizens than the current governor..

I do agree with adhyz that the result is still surprising despite of Jokowi's popularity lately. Well, this shows that people still have power against the political parties and are able to judge calmly despite all of the political, ethnics, and religion issues. All Indonesian people are bound to keep a close watch to Jokowi-Ahok's work, not only the citizens of Jakarta. If all goes well, I think that Jokowi will have a chance to be president, maybe in 5-10 years. What do you guys think?
