I was talking with some friends about childhood fun and remembered a "scary" rumour in elementary school. This rumour suggested that if you dialed 666 at midnight and looked in the mirror, satan would appear in it.
It sounds so stupid now :)
Do you have any similar stories?

Yeah we have a silly myths like this. We don't call them rumers in the US we call them myths. The one told in the US is if you go in the bathroom and says blood Mary 3 times in front of the mirror and then turn off the lights. Your suppose to see her in the mirror but you see yourself and freak out. There is all kind of myths here in the US about all kind of strange things. Some real and others are fake.

Who knows if it's real that is thing about myths part of it is true and other parts are fake. I really wouldn't know only the people that started would know if it's real or not and to what degree it is real.
A bloody Mary is a story and a drink.

No, but my parents weren't real religious and phones hadn't been around that long... at least not long enough to get that kind of rap around these parts.
If I were to have heard anything like that, it would've come from some friend and I guess they didn't have time for that stuff either....

Yeah, because we have already matured so we don't kind of get scared anymore. But horror movies never seem to change they are always scary.

"That's there is monster below my bed." - That would haunt me just like forever. But I get it, our parents just want us to stay in bed for longer hours. As a would-be parent, i would not instill that thought to my kid rather I would explain to him or her good thoughts. Thanks

In our country it was believed that a fragrant white flower of a tree called "Pala" flowered, that night at midnight vampires will visit the tree, and anyone seeing the vampire clad in a white saree will be ruined or killed. Now the Pala tree in front of my house is full of flower, though the fragrance is heady,I have never seen a vampire till now.

I wonder why someone would spread such rumour. For fun I guess.

The Bloody Mary one, if you say it three times she appears, the only way to make her disappear is to turn the light on in the bathroom.
One that no one has heard before involves the family. It's not a scary story but a funny one. My grandmother put a pumpkin in the woods, and then wrapped red saran wrap on it's eyes to scare my uncle's GF at the time. Hilarious!
There is plenty of other things I am sure I'm not thinking about that was "scary" for me growing up.

The light in the bathroom? hahaha
Kids stories always have some simple action in them that seems kind of stupid.

I read all the fairy tales I could get my hands on. All of them were quite scary and exciting. Later on, when I became a writer, I used many of those tales, with a twist, for my short stories. The one I love best is Little Red Riding Hood. I`ve made 4 versions of it

4 versions? Was the Little Red Riding Hood a lion in any of them? That would be a great fight with wolf. :)

Yes there were several horror stories that we heard. There was even a story that I read when I was in the elementary school. That was about knowing our future husband, it was to bring a candle in front of a mirror during midnight. I don't know if that was really true.

we used to play spirit of the coin when we were in high school. but until now, i still can't figure out if there's really a real spirit in it. or was it just our instinct of spelling out words or names which are familiar with us. because one time we tested that we played with our eyes closed and one of us who did not join in touching the coin had his eyes opened. the coin haven't moved or if it was moving it didn't spelled anything.

I don't understand how this works but if it was a game I am sure there is no spirit. In a piece of metal? In all coins?
