What is this FDI?

Hai mylotters! I belong to india.these days FDI is hot topic here.i donot know much about it.FDI stands for foreign direct investment.and through this many mall and big stores will open.there is a dispute in government regarding this.some says it will benefit our country whereas others say small traders and farmers will be at big loss.do you guys have any idea about it.share freely.good day.

FDI - Foreign Direct Investment means investment from people from other countries. This is usually good for a country since it helps improve the local economy via the multiplying effect. One dollar may generate 5 to 10 dollars since the money used result in other purchases.
Some of these foreign investment may actually increase the business for some small traders.
Some level of competition help makes the local trades more competitive, however, there has to be a balance. Too much of anything is always bad.

Hi strovek!
Ok,competition will make small traders competitive,but i think there is a big difference between our small traders product and foreign finished product.our small product will not be able to compete and finally these small traders will get abolished leaving a very bad effect village sector.

Day before yesterday the same question asked to my hubby then they replied me the meaning of FDI means Foreign Direct Investment in retail sector. Means other countries people will came in our country and start the shops like big malls and I think this will be the loss of retail businessmen and Govt should not give the permission for this. Yes you are right small traders and farmers will bear the big loss. Therefore dispute is starts to not give the permission for FDI.

Hi surekharathi!thanks for responding.thats also i m getting.if our farmers and small traders bear loss how could our nation make progress.the infrastructure of our country depends upon village,farmers and people residing there.still a majority of population lives in village.i want to know how this FDI will benefit to this sector.
