So far as I know,we must have 8 hours of sleep everyday. But I think, much depends on our age.Infants sleep for almost the whole day.The old sleep less.If you do a lot of physical or mental labor, may be you need a sound sleep for eight hours.Sleep restores our energy. You should decide how much sleep is necessary for you.If you sleep for more than 8 hours, may be you have weakness.Better ask your doctor.

8 hours is the minimum average people need to sleep. So over 8 hours is not abnormal or bad. It's said children and female should at least sleep 10 hours or more (my kids sleep 12 hours or more I have a big lack of sleep already since years).
It's better for your brains, your body and also (interesting for those who live in the western world) if you sleep more as 10 hours at night you are less overweighted.
If it comes to what I personally think: I think most people sleep way too less. I always learned that the hours you sleep before midnight count twice. Also I think there are people who can do with less sleep and there are people who need way more sleep as others. Also if you are ill, have problems, stress, etc.. this will cost you(r body) a lot of energy. So you need to sleep! How many hours you sleep is also habit. You can learn to sleep more although it will take time to reset your habits/body. BTW it's proved that most people sleep way too less. Might be we all will be more healthy and less stressed if we would spend more time sleeping instead of sitting in front of the tv (not really watching) or behind our computers (most of the time being bored).

basing from my experience, sleeping for over 8 hours isn't good for the body. i could sleep that long, but the problem is upon waking up. the joints begin to ache, the bones become stiff, the muscle will have cramps. it is such a difficulty just to get up and even more uncomfortable to lie still. even the eyes would feel tired with all that sleeping.
i've been experiencing this many times over the years, and it gets worse the older i got.

I don't think its going to hurt you sleeping more then 8 hours but for the most part we dont need too.much more as adults unless maybe you are sick or lacking and behind in sleep. I know though for myself if i sleep more than 9 hours i just feel sluggish all day and have a headache.

I think if you sleep over 8 hours you may not be getting needed excercise.Youcould get stiff joints and have less muscle tone.Sometimes it's better to just relax rather than sleep.

Just as people's appetite is not same, everyone's time of sleep is different. Not the length of time to sleep to just whether a person has enough sleep.Just woke up energy is OK!

yeah, according to research too much sleep or over sleeping may lead to obesity, head ache and diabetes.. some people are used to sleep 8 hours or more and still wake up refreshed,i'm not. 7 hrs of sleep is enough for me,evrytime i over sleep i experience back pains and different pains all over my body..
