We laugh at it in the movies, that last scene where the police come in too late, for the hero had done his role of saving the day. The police force is always the butt of joke. It was always "Too late the hero!"
But President Aquino is not laughing. He, like most of us, wants the police at our beck and call, because we call on them when we truly need them.
So, the Chief of Police issued a directive: a two minute response time to the scene of the crime! The policemen are mandated to be in action at a moment's notice.
And of course we saw some samples already. Some were sacked, they did not live up to our expectation.
But by way of dressing our cops right, the President armed them with new guns. Let's see now, am sure it's the criminals' turn to have second thoughts.
What a relief, really, for it had been far too long, and I really couldn't even say if I ever trusted a cop, but with the going ons in the police, I think we can see a brighter, safer society.

Well I guess in time we would know how the new leader would handle this. As of now, I still fear that the response time would need a lot of improvement. I know that we have this attitude of being very active at the start but later it would die down again.
I just hope that it would continue to prosper even beyond the current term of the President. I think most are just trying to play along and after that it stays the same when the next president replaces them.

I do believe that we should be able to trust the police in our communities, but the truth is that this is not always the case. There are, unfortunately, far too many times that the police are more crooked than the general public. This is the reason that at least here there are many times that people are hesitant to call the police to help them in times of need.
There are times that the wrong person is victimized and that makes an individual leery to call for police help again.

Yes, that's always the case in the movies.
Maybe the director would just like to emphasize how the hero have battled the crooks, by himself.
Going back, i must say that i have proven that the police here in our place are quick to response for the call for help.
I myself, called them one time when a drunk laborer keeps shouting invectives at us . After about 5 minutes, the police came in a patrol car since they are a bit far from our place, in full gear, 2 of them with armalites. Thus, having seen them, we went out and there confronted the drunk laborer who of course denied our accusation. But he didn't win, because the police told him to shut up and sober up and told his companion to subdue him, lest he will be placed overnight in the jail.
The drunk apologized to us and was quiet after that. I thanked and congratulated the policemen but i forgot to get their names. So, i talked to a radio man i know , to commend them over the radio and tell him that i am so proud that they gave a quick response to our call for help. And he did.

It has also got to do with police to population ratio which is 1 is to 620 in our country or one policeman for every 620 citizens. We have the Barangay with "tanods" (brarangay police) to augment them and handle petty crimes.

It's a common scene in action films that police are always late. They only show up when the main actor has done his thing. Funny concept by most of the directors, I mean this has always been their logic. If I get the chance to make my own film I will make the police do their job before the main actor does just for a change. Something unusual is entertaining to see sometimes.

It is difficult to implement that here in the Philippines. With due respect to the policemen, they should be scattered all over the place to respond quickly. Other policemen are so lazy when doing this job. Some were sleeping inside their cars. Good to hear that some bad cops were dispatched and were jailed.

The news give us an idea on what is happening in society and from here we get that information how policeman are not trustworthy or they responded too late to a crime. Nowadays we are fed with news on police notoriety and we check the crime rates. However our information is only dependent upon what is heard or seen on the news. It looks like the good deeds of the police are not being provided with the same attention. The population in the metropolis greatly outnumbers the police. There is a scarcity of police visibility because they lack the numbers. Most of them are concentrated on the crime-prone areas leaving other places open to criminal activity. They cannot be in all places at the same time. This bad image of the police makes them lose their motivation and it is sad since not all policemen at rotten.

We should support our government in whatever plans and programs they may have. Little by little we could address the problems in our society. I know this plan of the government would be of big help to fight the crimes in the country.
Sometimes I really feel sad if police officers are the headlines for not so good news aired on TV and other papers. Especially now, they are just so popular for doing negative things. I hope this thing will be totally disappear in the history of police force. This will not be a very good image for all of us.
