Recently I had surgery so have been off work for a while. I'm not supposed to be doing much physically and was finding it hard to overcome boredom so I took a trip to the Pinterest website. Wow!
So many interesting, crafty things and ideas on there that I decided to try a few for myself. This led to me taking a couple of beading workshops at my local Michael's craft store and I made a few things that I posted pictures of on Facebook. Well, I think I started something! I got requests from people wanting me to make them bracelets like the one I posted a pic of.
Now I am no longer bored, am doing crafts and making bracelets and even getting a little pocket money on the side! Awesome.

Very nice. I learned to crochet while on bed rest during my first pregnancy. All I could do was lay there! I couldn't even go to the store to buy yarn I had to send the hubby. Well hubby is color blind so he brought back some interesting combos when it came to colors

Winterose, for Pinterest you have to be able to "pin" photographs. I don't know that there is much there for writing except maybe if you can blog and have photos on your blogs. I tried to have a board on some of my blogs and Squidoo lenses but it didn't work out very well there. It's more for sharing photo stories. Anything that is connected to a photo, like crafts, recipes, fashion, decor, etc.

I am also learning how to quilt and am also making Christmas ornaments that I am hoping to sell online. I am a graduate student and am looking for things to do that will help me balance between school work and having fun. I have taken classes at Michael's in the past, but this year they are not offering any ornament making classes and neither is JoAnn's. I am going to websites such as Pinterest and e-how to watch videos on how to do things. I will post my ornaments on here as soon I get them done and will also post on facebook. I got an email from a great person on here who sent me a few sites that I can sell for free.

Try YouTube for great videos on how to do things too. It's almost amazing what you can find there.

Pretty much anything you want to make, you can find out how on YouTube. I go there a lot as well.
I've always wanted to learn how to quilt but just never got around to it. I like going to Pinterest as well for inspiration and ideas. Have you posted on FB? I'd like to look at what you've done!!

I love beading, in particular, bead weaving. But the problem is that I don't have time to do it. I feel like I'm lacking something when I dont get a chance to be creative. People have told me I should sell some of my jewelry but I believe I don't have enough invetory to make a website or give people choices.
I suppose I could to a website and post some things on it then see where that goes. It might push me to make the time to do more. I've just been busy with work and household/family things that I don't get the time to bead. It's too bad since it helps me relax. It feels more like therapy to me.

Oh I love it. I lose all track of time when I go to make something. The only reason I have time to do it now is because I'm off work for an extended period of time for medical reasons. I will definitely have less time to do it once I get back to work.
I would love to make a website for myself, however, I don't know the first thing about creating a web page!
I have had all kinds of inquiries though just from posting a pic in my Crafts Album on Facebook. I have sold 4 bracelets already, have orders for 2 more and have several others who have expressed a keen interest in buying them.
What I did was made up a few, posted pictures of them, and the told people I would do custom orders in the colours they want.

I have thought of the same thing. But as for inventory, maybe you can make samples of what you make, and post the photos, then make to order the things people want to buy. That way you don't have to have a full inventory and you don't get stuck with a bunch of items you don't end up selling.

That is great. Finding a craft you love makes life enjoyable. That you can make some money at it is just an added bonus.

Bracelets are little harder. But check with your local shelter -- especially one for teen girls. Often these girls have NOTHING. Maybe a piece of jewelry of their own will help.

That sounds great, that you have found some thing that you like doing and also make some pocket money out of it.
Lots of people are saying about the site that you are on about and I had never heard of it, so I will be taking a look at it to see all what they have on there.
I have a bead set which I bought years ago and that was to make hair things for my daughters and they are all grown up now, how ever I may just give the set a go soon.

That turquoise bracelet is absolutely beautiful! Your surgery may have been a blessing in disguise. You are quite a talented beader. I hope you gain a good clientele. There's money to be made in jewelry making, that's for sure. Maybe I should be doing beading instead of Origami.

Thank you so much. Yes, I agree, there is money to be made but the competition is fierce. However, there is always room at the top, or so the saying goes, lol. I said the same thing--that this time off has led me to find something that I enjoy doing. As long as I'm liking it, it doesn't really matter if I make a lot of money at it or not.

There you go! Now you are no longer bored, you get to do something that you really like plus earn on the side. IIt just gets better and better for you and even though I don't know you personally I am truly glad how it worked out for you. I have to admit that Ia dmire this attitude of yours; I met a couple of people who are also in the same situation as you are in and instead of them finding something to get busy, they did nothing but whine and be a pain to those around them.

Thank you Raine. I am really enjoying doing the beading and it is something that I can do while I sit and recover from my surgery. I am not much of a television watcher and you can only read so much and lose so many games on FB before you look elsewhere for entertainment!
