Lupus is an autoammune disorder. Your antibodies can't tell the difference between a virus or infection and attack your body. The antibodies will attack joints causing pain and inflametion. They can also attack you internal organs. Lupus doesn't kill you but the damage from your organs being attcked can. There are many ways they can try to manage it. Trying to eliminate stress from your life is a good start. They will also give you anti-inflamatories and pain medicine. Plaquinil also helps keep it in check for some people. Lupus is not contagious. They are not sure what causes Lupus.

I don't have lupus but I remember a past season of America's Next Top Model and a young woman competing, Mercedes, was suffering from Lupus. She was trying to keep it a secret from the judges and other contestants but finally shared. Now she has been a speaker at different events for those suffering from Lupus and even though she didn't win she seems happy that she is able to make people more aware of the disease.

I have Lupus. The best way to deal with it is one day at a time. Enjoy your good days to the fullest. Just don't over do it. Stay active, this helps a lot. If I don't do anything I get a lot stiffer. Make your life as stress free as possible. Then don't let things bother you.
My family tries to understand. I know it is hard for them because you look healthy. They sometimes have a hard time remembering that you can't do some things anymore. Don't be afraid to tell them that you don't feel up to doing something. Remind them that you are not feeling well.
