For disaster? Whether man made or natural? Are you ready with food? water? medicine? firearms and ammo? Are you ready mentally? what if there is a hurricane? tsunami? mudslide? avalanche? etc.
Are you and your family ready? Do you have three days worth of goods? three weeks? three months? How prepared do you think a person/family should be?
What if money became useless? Do you have goods to barter? How much thought have you put into emergencies?

It's amazing how many people who are not prepared for anything, not even a bad storm where they might not be able to get to the store. I would worry myself sick if I didn't have some kind of back up. To think that if I got sick or there was a water crisis (we had one a few years back when the public water supply was contaminate) or something disrupted the grocery supply and I had nothing to fall back on?
I don't know if I'm ready mentally. I don't think anyone can be until/unless something really happens, but I do think it's wise to prepare for possible emergencies, just like we prepare for them financially with insurances and savings of various kinds.
To think that nothing will ever happen is living in a pollyanna world. Things happen every day.

I agree. I dont think it is being paranoid to save a little food and water "just in case". Usually it is these people that are saying they have no time for that crap, these are your neighbors that would be begging, even expecting everybody else to help them.

Learning from travelling on the truck with my husband I learned how you can even eat and even be healthy from canned goods and dry goods. A lot of times those products have good sales and you can stock up,even if there isn't a disaster. Who doesn't love a sale, when you can stock up?

No I'm not ready. It could happen but then again maybe it wouldn't. I'm not like those ppl u see on tv hehe!
I keep thinking that someone will rage war with us and for that I am ready. I know who to shoot a person and know how to protect myself should anything bad happen.
One day I will build me an underground house/bunker filled with canned good and everything one will need to survive a disaster.

We just experienced heavy flood a month ago and thanks God I was not been affected.I was not able to go for work because all the possible way that I can pass was been flooded so I was stranded in my boarding house. I stayed there for three days. Luckily, before that dilemma happened,I still have a food to eat because all the stores were closed.

We have enough food and water to last about a month. I do have a few extra things like bleach and just a bit of money put back.

Topics like these always remind me of when people say "it won't happen to me" the thing is, what IF it does happen to you.
I think we can be prepared to a certain point, but we can only do so much as humans. For example, we may have a first aid kit prepared in case somebody has a minor injury but it's not like we are going to keep the saw near us if we have to amputate.

We are aware of the emergencies that could happen in life. So we have brought a power plant in case we lose electricity, we have gallons of water for emergencies too. We definitely have food and non-food items for at least a month available. We have goods to barter with if need to. Our main concern living in Puerto Rico would have to be hurricanes and earthquakes. Thank God we have not in the past two years of living here, have had to deal with anything really severe, so far.

I live in the country. Sometimes the winters are hard, so I always stock up extras for winter, just in case I can't get out. It is always good to be prepared for anything, blackouts, storms, lay-offs,or sickness. In any event extra provisions will help you through those bad times.

In any calamity or incidence that might happen in the future. wether we are ready, prepared or trained of do's and dont's for this scenario. It still depend on us if how we can condition ourselves on the actual time of emergencies.. especially for those unpredictable calamities. But the best way of facing if is your presence of mind together with your adrenalin rush that during the disaster, you must be alert and brave.. and let not your frightened emotions controls you.. and be guided thru prayers..

I think that one should have an extra amount of anything on hand, because you never know when something will happen and you might need to use the excess stuff to make it through until you can get more. It wouldn't even have to be a disaster, it could be being injured or becoming unemployed. That's why my husband and I think that living in a trailer house is a good thing because you are mobile, so if something comes up that you have to move, you are able to. I think one must also be prepared mentally, emotionally and physically as well as spiritually in case some thing happens.

You can never be ready for natural disasters since it's very difficult to determine there magnitude. That having been said I have to admit that you've caught me off guard on the preparedness issue. I just feel I'm not prepared as I ought to be!

I'm ready, because there's nothing to worry about if you Jesus Christ in our life, and if you accepted him as your Lord and Personal savior in our spiritual life we are save.
Now the question there is "do we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Personal Savior?"..

I do accept Him.
but
Are you called being a servant? care not for it: but if you may be made free, use it rather.

we probably wouldn't do well in a disaster as we just don't always have the money to buy extra food to stash away nor a ton of extra money but mentally, i think we could do it.
regarding barter, we are seeing more and more bartering taking place due to the economy these days. it is a cheap way to get things if you have something to barter with in the first place.

I agree, I already barter services and have always found it mutually beneficial. Regarding food and being able to afford extra. We started with just picking up a couple of extra cans from the grocery store. Then whenever we get a little extra cash, bonus, overtime, etc, We buy meat that is on sale and stock up with that. Then there are times that we are just broke broke broke, that extra food has come in handy.

No I am not ready for any disaster. Thats why they are called disasters. I think even if people are equipped for a disaster, they are never truly ready for them. Also, I cannot live my life wording about a disaster. I cannot stop living my life as a result of it. And besides, my luck would be that I would be nowhere near home and not be prepared for a disaster. Whatever happens happens.

Well, to be honest, I never thought it could happen suddenly a disaster of any kind (Instead I had to do: Never take anything for granted!).
My ancestors who lived through the war, however, they are also passed through these concerns.
Maybe it's a mistake to never give weight to what might happen suddenly also tomorrow!
I must say that your original discussion, is making me much to think about. If I put in front of this, then I can easily make me realize that the trouble I'm going through at the time, by comparison, would be only stupid things!

I am raised in a country where people have the most insurances (against everything) of the whole world. I am raise in a country where they always want you to be ready for something. This being ready costs a lot of money and most things will never happen. And if some disaster is happening you did not count with that since it's very rare or unexpected. If you have to live like that (always to be ready) you are not able to live, to enjoy, to let it go, to accept. I think it's wrong to be ready and if.. big chance you made the wrong preparations, you only will survive for a short time. The only thing I have is a flashlight and candles and matches and some meds in my house. I think that will do. If we die we die, if it's the end of the world so be it. I always wonder what people may think they are the only ones being able to survive that if it happens to all of us. Better enjoy your life now instead of being feared for what might happen in future.

That is a lot of what ifing your doing right there. NO I'm not prepared for anything above you've listed you know why because I don't sit around thinking about the endless possiblity of things that could happen and I don't have the time nor the money to go spending on the things that would be need for it. So being prepared right now is none exited in my life I live in the moment and only have what I need for right now and all anyone really needs is themselves and maybe someone else to keep them company and I have that. The rest is just things. You can always find food, a place to stay, you can always get money if you look hard enough.

I am not asking if it consumes your life. I understand that. I am not trying to find or make paranoid people. I simply wondering. Look at areas that are ravaged by tsunamis or earthquakes or tornadoes. Or you get snowed in. I was wondering if you would have enough food to survive.

I so agree you can make money doing a number of things! There are so many companies out there looking to sponsor a number of people to offer many different services!I agree with your statement though that you do not have the time or energy to wait on foolishness! I am so with you!Lastly, most can always get assistance and help if they apply themselves hard enough!!
