Hi MyLot Members, Today I received an email with the subject of "UNAID HONORARY AMBASSADOR". THe emails starts by mentioning that the United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS) just conferred Honorary UN Ambassadorial status on 1500 distinguished personalities form across the globe. Further they mentioned that I am being selected as their newly appointed Ambassador. A huge amount of grant is also mentioned that is to commence UN humanitarian work. I am asked to respond to the email as soon as possible. For this purpose,I want to ask whether it is a legit email or just a scam like many others here.

Did you ever sign up to or join any United Nations site? I very much doubt it! Of course it's a scam and a hoax! Such emails are known as "phishing" emails. They will usually ask you to reply giving your name, address and full bank details (which the person will use to try to steal money from you, of course).

I don't know what is the purpose of phishing emails now a days. Because one can easily differentiate between such type of emails. is there any kind of software to prevent such emails?

Your email client probably has a spam filter. The most reliable method is to make sure that your Contacts list contains the addresses of all the people you know and expect mail from. You can then change your mail settings so that only mail from people on your contacts list is delivered to your inbox. Everything else will go into the Spam folder.

My expirience is that when you get a mail, that looks to good to be true, usually it's fake. My advice is not to fool yourself and just delete this one. I also receive mails like this one from time to time, but no matter how tempting it looks, better choice is to ignore it. Good luck!

My advice is that we should also not even open these type of mails. They might contain any virus that may access your PC data or Account information.

It's a hoax! Iused to get ones like this all the time. It takes some experience with them to really be able to tell. I would check and report it on either of these two sites: www.scambusters.com or scamorlegit.com

I was also having doubt about the said mail. The main reason of discussing the mail here on this forum is to inform and warn Mylotters about this scam.
