is sugarglider illegal to keep as pet in india ?

Dear mylotters, one of my friend is having the sugarglider, it is kind of squirrel and it is well breeding in his place, and he is moving out of station permenentaly , and he wish to sell and i wish to buy ,, but my biggest question is that the sugar glider is a legal one or illlegal one to keep as the pet.

we may not know weather it is legal or illegal ,, also many are telling it is illegal and many other are telling it is legal , dont know how to find it is legal or not , thanks Kumar

we are from india , chennai , and in US it is legal to keep , but in india we dont know thats why thanks Riya

In India it is illegal to have sugargliders as pets. I read this on wiki answers.com but not sure if it's accurate. I couldn't find anything else from searching. You might call a local animal shelter or vet's office because they would know for sure. Good luck.
