My husband and I have been scrapping metal to earn a few dollars on the side. We're thinking of starting a junking business. Has anyone ever scraped metal before? We need to find ways to find more metal to scrap, do you have any suggestions? We know people who are making good money by doing this but we're having a hard time doing it on a daily basis like they do.

Usually, the people that do well with scrapping medal, in the ara I live in anyway, do well because they are stealing it. They go into condemned buildings, take light posts, and even take air conditioners off of the roofs of our schools! I suggest if you are going to scrap, go to pawn shops and buy cheap things and then scrap it. Ask neighbors if they have any junk they don't need. Please just do it legally!

Oh, exactly rewardsinlife, we want to do it legally. We know some people that don't do it legally and are in jail. When driving around we see a lot of iron, metal and copper that can be recycled, we just don't know how to get the word out or find places that we could ask if they have any. I'm waiting on news from real estate companies that I've contacted if they have some one who goes to abandoned properties for clean up. I guess a good way is to get a job as trash person. Hmm

I see people offering metal for scrap on Freecycle or Craigslist (free section). Back in the days before digital printing, we used to use metal plates for printing, but I just don't know if they are appropriate for scrapping (there were chemicals on it - not sure what the rules/laws are for metal scrapping). There was this guy who used to come into our print shop - and he would actually cut up the plates (they were thin) and he'd stick them into aluminum cans so he could make more money off of aluminum scrapping. That sounded wrong, and in hind site I think I should have reported him (I was in college - I didn't "think" either). Anyway, best of luck on your new venture!

I have a friend who has the same business and they have even encourage us to have our own too coz according to them it is really a good business coz they are earning a lot most especially if they can find a newly-finished building who would want to get rid of their excess metals.

Theirs big money in scrap metal Friends got his own busines goes around with a van and a mega phone asking for scrap metal unwanted house items. Sells all the electrical goods providing their working at his 2nd hand shop and the rest of it brakes down and weighs in makes good money from doing it. Just depends on how much room you got or a place where you can get lease to do such things.
Simple answer to your questions is by going to all local stores car parks and handing out business cards and flyers if its allowed. Or get van and mega phone and go along streets asking. However many areas are different in many areas of the world. Heres its legal however might not be legal where you are.
