The first thing you been to know is your budget and then look at how much money you have available for your trip. I have climbed three mountains in my lifetime, one in Norway, one in Australia and one in New Zealand. The best cities that I have traveled to are Sydney, Cape Town and Vancouver. Earlier this year I visited Rio and I found it very exciting. You could go to a city near to where you live perhaps on a low cost airline. You could maybe stay in a backpackers hostel or a guest house.

Whenever we want to travel, we always start with our budget. We determine how much can we spare for a particular trip. Once we have a budget, we narrow down all the places that we can go to that is within our budget. Then from there, we narrow down our choices by determining what we want to do, want to see or experience. This is just a suggestion because there are a lot of cities and mountain ranges that you can visit.

There are plenty of cities close or in the mountains as well. The question you should ask yourself first is: what do I like to do during my vacation? And if it's not only about you, you both/all have to ask yourself that first. Next question: how much money do you want to spend? Staying in a city is way more expensive as outside. You can also decide to travel around, see a bit more and spread your costs. BTW I am curious why you like the city more. I would not choose one since I don't really see a city as vacation (means way too hectic and crowdy so less rest to me).
