When I was traveling last week in train with my daughter. A person who was seated on upper berth. He puts the shoes on fan and sleep there after some time shoes falls on aged man head. I angered on that person and say helloooo why you are put your shoes there fan is not the place for your shoes. Keep near you or beneath down bogi. He not change the palce say sorry and put once again there. I said if once again fall down then keep in mind I will throw your shoes out of train. Then a man also said to him why you are again putting the shoes on fan. Then that person take the shoes and keep near him. Some people not sense and understand what is good and what is bad. Do you such experience or do you have such habit?

fantabulus: You have done a right thing in bringing the bad behavior to the notice of that man. People are scared that the shoes may be lost if they keep under neath the sitting chairs, Many people keep their bag, shoes etc along with them in the berth. I use to pray to God and keep it under the seat. But thee have been instances when people have lost their bag with cash while travelling in train. I suggest you do not enter into controversy while travelling along with your teen age daughter. she should not be affected by your behavior. tolerate.

I have never rode on a train so I don't know specific policies, but in general, if there is an action that can cause harm to others it should be reported to a staff member on the train itself.

You are right action should be taken but no TT or police are help and say to them. So only the passenger can say those persons who are putting shoes on fan.

Hmm your profile says you are from India. I am not entirely sure about India's laws when it comes to stuff like this but do they have anything similar to a "citizens arrest" over there? If the person was constantly putting others in danger could do a citizen arrest I suppose.

India being a big country with 1.20 billion population -- we cannot have sufficient number of police to watch every activity. However 80% people are really good people managing their affairs well. 20% people do indulge in such things which affect others. they should be told. while telling that will result in fight. This is very common in Indian Railways. However considering the number of passengers travelling every day such incidents are quite less. good day.

Personally maybe he never thought about what he was doing, and that they would be in the way. I think often times people are so used to doing things their own way, and never have to worry about bothering anyone, so they never stop and think about what about when they are around someone else. At least you did get him to change where they were putting their shoes, and hopefully got them to think. But many times people never stop to think before doing things.

I haven't had this happen to me, but I agree that it makes no sense for him to put his shoes there again. I can sort of understand not thinking of it in the first place (not everyone really thinks about these things) but after it happened once, why would the man let it happen again? It's silly.

I do not want to look for trouble. I am the kind of person who wouldn't want to bother others unless necessary.

surekha: do not ever do like that. if you throw his shoes out he will enter into controversy. sometimes such fights result in beating also. You are a woman travelling alone --please keep yourself away from such troublesome people.

Hi! Some people are incorrigible (the one who can not be corrected) and are shameless creatures and least bother about the convenience of others. These kinds of ill mannered people create nuisance and irritate others and the way you shouted on him, they deserve that kind of treatment. Having experiences such nuisance I try not to travel in II sleeper class and I prefer travelling in at least 3 Tier AC so as avoid unpleasant situations.

He probably wants to prevent his shoes from being stolen, which is probably the only answer I have for his stupid act. Sometimes, people just do not think or have some proper common sense when they are in some situation or simply lazy to come up with a better alternative like wrapping his shoes in a plastic bag and store it in his hand carry bag at his side. For me, I had numerous encounters with passengers traveling with foot rot on trains and you can imagine the swooning smell when they take off their shoes.

This is a hard situation because you don't know the person so you can't really talk to them properly, but if it was me I think I would try to move away from the person because he obviously didn't want to listen to what you were saying. It really isn't worth the stress of having an argument with somebody who you're never going to meet again, so it just makes sense to try and take yourself away from the situation if there is any way that you can do so. Some people do appear to be quite selfish but it is best to distance yourself from them as they aren't worth your time or stress.
