Hello Lotters,
Hard to believe that we are sea people and supposed to focus on fishing and marine resources as our source of export. but it seemed we have lost it because we still have premature ships that are use by fishermen.
as for its security, we don't have that much either because it's all for the media show. but when it comes to real battle, our old battleships would really get sunked by a submarine or even a not so advanced fighter jet.
hearing these backroom talks with China has made the weaker out of us more so Enrile's exposing of these talks just for his political gain.
Hard knowing we live in a free and democratic country but become so weak in it's military...
Living in an island, we should at least have equal military power with the Japanese, but we screw it, didn't we?

Hi,
You're right, we are going backward rather than forward in our development programs. What is more strange is that we are not wanting in terms of human resources and capability to make and do anything we want. Our fellow countrymen are scattered all over the world, the country that hosted them benefiting from their talents, abilities and industriousness, making skyscrapers, ships, curing sicknesses and excelling in the trades they engage in.
Now, think what a mighty country we could be if all those talents are poured and invested here in this small Republic of ours, we could be ranked among the high and the mighty among the superpowers of the world, isn't it?
Then why not? We screwed it, that's for sure. Who can undo the screwing, lets just leave that to you and me for now, maybe we can do something for a start.

Hello Rog0322, I think human resources won't last since the foreign government would start focusing on their own citizens to work. I tried to have other people vote for the candidate which i believe can be better, but i can't even convince my family then how can i convince others?

The problem is corruption, had it not been for that this country would have been one of the superpowers of Asia. Although a lot are aware that as the world population expands, so is the demand for resources. but being a peace loving country, not to mention the colonial mentality we have we didn't realize that we would be faced with territorial problems like the ones we're facing today. As they say, better late than never, at least, our government is doing all it can within its means to protect what is ours. We don't really need to have the arms might the north korea has, lots of arms while it people starve, enough capability to defend is enough because at the end of the day, everything can be settled with good communication.

Hello Ybong, I think there was also some lack of conviction on our people as well, we have become to dependent on the government too. I didn't think any one cared about this territorial problem before until the media showed it. well, i think North has different scenario, it will collapse a lot earlier than china knowing that they are both communist. we only need to champion in getting more people to start business, take care of environment and employed more jobs

That is the sickening truth that our country has millions and millions of funds going to waste, and all for the pockets of a few, when these, we know could be allocated for some good resources our country could very well use.
Our agriculture was lost to thailand, now even vietnam exports fish products and where are we at? its been a downslide! =(

Hello Chiyosan, I think right now Agriculture and Fisheries / Live Stocks sufficiency is our at most importances right now. they are also struggling into self suffiency in Rice, but it's a good start. I don't want to think about other countries success, we can rise since we have reach the bottom of our problems, rising is the only choice

We had lost it a long time ago when Cory became president, and all the succeeding presidents up to Arroyo. If there is any consolation, I think this is the only government that openly talks of forming a capable defense capability, starting out with the 2 or three Hamilton class ships, the 8 w-3 sokols that are already at par with most countries and modern attack helicopters soon to come, the soon to arrive Maestrale class from Italy ( our first real frigate), the coming squadron of kai T-50 from Korea (brand new) instead of the old F-16's the U.S. is offering us that went to Indonesia instead. The Philippines has also already started to build her own ships from ship yards in Cebu like the BRP Tagbanua,( a locally made marine landing craft) plus Multi purpose attack crafts (MPAC)locally made by Propmech, 3 had alredy been delivered and are in use out of a total order of around 40. We don't plan to be aggressive or anything but just have the capability to defend what is ours based on agreed upon international laws. We just have to be a little patient cause it's hard to undo the harm that has been done like neglect and corruption in the past. " Mabuhay and Filipinas" ( long live the Philippines)

Hello Louievill, I don't want our country to win through aggression but through successful diplomacy. because war is ugly and regardless of the results, we would remain guilty with the soldiers giving out their lives for the sake of the country. we only need these ships to support our people and provide an easier assistance to the victims of natural disasters or survivors from a sunked ship or cruiser

Our Navy is now starting to upgrade. One big ship from the US and 2 Italian ships are coming next year. I hope our fellow country men understand all of these. We are really behind in terms of military power in comparison with our neighboring countries. One big group of people in the Philippines who oppose the improvement of Military in our country is the CPP/NPA. I hope one day there will be no more insurgency within our country. We must be one, we must be ready for an external attacks.
