The referee should have blown the whistle correctly in that game and nothing would have happened. He has refused a clear penalty to Liverpool and has given a very easy one to United, so what does he expect? Those kind of referees shouldn't be allowed to step on the pitch never in their life. When I see things like this, I always think that they do it on purpose and that they are a disgrace. They are paid very well for doing their job, so why they are so worried about a few tweets on the Internet?

Because this is a fact. The referee was the decisive factor for this game. He has not given a valid penalty for Liverpool, and has invented one for United. In games when there is not a too noticeable quality gap between the teams, it is very frustrating when the referee decides the game and this was the case now.

I think Mark Halsey deserved reporting this attack..I know that maybe he makes some controversial decision..I know Liverpool fans are upset..But the fans must realize that their mouth or twitter can make them go in jail

I think the referee really had a poor match. I can understand why the Liverpool fans are so upset. If the referee had called the game right, Liverpool could have won the game, but they ended up losing the game. But that does not justify personally assaulting a human being as this is after all a game. But I think for contentious decisions the technology support is something that is required and the earlier it is introduced it would help referees avoid such howlers. Cheers! Ram

in one side, we understand the feeling of liverpool fans..they have rights for angry for the referee.. but it`s too execissive telling about cancer or anything personal about the referee..,it`s no connection with his performance in the pitch

@ram: Football is a tough sport, so every "actor" must be powerful. Nowadays, there is so much fuss about words, and words which are written on the Internet. So what some of the people wish him bad things? How many of us are not saying ugly things when they are heated up? For many fans, their team is their life and when you see that the referee robs you in your own home, how can you feel?

I personally thought the referee was poor that game and got all the big decisions wrong the argument is their for both set of fans to discuss, being a Liverpool fan I could be slight bias towards my team. Both set of supporters were brilliant minus the selective few morons with chants. What happened on the pitch is over and knowing how much that ref get under my skin with his bad decisions he doesn't deserve that I don't think anyone deserves that.

i know that he is controvesial referee in that games.. but is it enough for attacking him because of his cancer??

I thought it was absolutely disgusting, Not just because the remarks were horrible and it's disgusting to wish someone Die of Cancer but Mark Halsey was excellent. The game needed a strong referee who wouldn't shy away from making crunch decisions despite hostility from the fans. Jonjo Shelvey clearly deserved to go for his out of control challenge on Jonny Evans. The United penalty whilst not the most blatant Penalty you'd ever see was in fact a Penalty. Glen Johnson's reaction after the Penalty was given said more than words could, He knew he had just given away a very key Penalty. He clearly caught Valencia which brought him down. Liverpool should have won that game but the reason why they didn't was not the decisions of the Referee but their inability to put away their chances but United's incredible will to win.

This is definitely poor behaviour from the Liverpool fans. Yes, Halsey had a stinker of a game. Yes, he made plenty of poor decision which cost Liverpool the game. If the fans were to swear at him, then I can still understand. But to attack the guy on his cancer, this is totally uncalled for. Liverpool should find out the fans who did that and ban them from the stadium altogether even thou the attack was online. This should teach the fans to have behave. Passion can run high in a game especially against the arch rival but it does not mean they have the right to say such a thing.
