At work there is this lady people are always talking about who is always racially profiling people when she greets them into the store and when they are leaving. I really don't understand why she is still working there. Anyways what is happening is at the store we have this new policy where the door greeters have to stop random people or people who are exiting the store with big items. They have to be stopped and asked for a receipt. Well, this lady at the job, she only stops black people and Hispanic people and she ask to see their bags and their receipts. She gets there receipts and checks through the whole bag and looks down the receipt. She never checks anyone elses bags that are not black or hispanic. One day, a guy that was black saw her doing this and he yelled so loud you could hear him throughout the whole store. He was telling her that she was racially profiling people and that she had better stop it and that he was going to file a complaint with corporate. It was said that he had said some other words and that the lady was so scared that she had to have security walk her to her car after work.
Yesterday, I was told that she stopped a little boy that was black from walking out the door because he had more then one cookie. In our bakery department, they give away free cookies to little kids. The little boy had asked if he could have two more, because they were going to be for his little brother and sister as well. So the associate handed the extra cookies to the little boy and he left the store. On his way out, the lady stopped him at the store and said you are not supposed to have more then one cookie, and she was yelling at him. I mean like really, first of all it is just a cookie and second of all they are free and he didn't steal them. One of the associates just basically went off on her in the break room during her break. She was saying that it didn't matter the cookies were free and the lady was going on and on about how she believed that the little boy could have stole the cookies out of a bag and they were not free. The associate was telling her that she should be careful because what if that little boys mother went into the store and went off on her. People have been telling her that she needs to be careful because this woman is getting so many complaints its crazy. I still don't understand why she is still working at the store.
Another time, there was an associate that had entered the store on a day that he was off and not even on the clock, and he was dressed in regular clothes. And yes you got it, he was black, he had his pants hanging way below his butt and he was just going in to do some shopping. What was the point of her stopping him at the door to tell him he needed to pull up his pants. Really, come on now lady, he's not even on the clock.
I was telling other people just yesterday that she better be careful, she may tell the wrong thing to the wrong person or do the wrong thing to the wrong person and one day they are going to do more then just yell at her and curse her out. They said she is so afraid now she won't even park in the same spot any more and she is always watching her back. That is sad that there is people out there that is like this and once again I will say how come this lady is still working at the store really. Is the store manager asking to lose customers.
What are your thoughts on this.

Well, how rude of this woman!!! Sounds like she doesn't need to be working in customer service at all. If I were you I would get a bunch of employess together and sign a petition or a complaint about her. That could also be considered harassment. I would think it would be considered racial profiling to, but I don't know what the laws are on that.

Yeah I think that would be a good idea. I think a few associates have gathered together and gone to management, but this may need to go as high as going to corporate because management isn't doing much about it. There was this one associate who said she was thinking of bringing it up to the store manager, and he may do something about it. If he cares about the store at all that he is managing you know. I hope something is done about it and she is fired.

Its amazing the types of things people get away with these days, but i think that if all or at least most of the employees take a stand against her like STOUTjodee suggests with a petition or complaint she is more likely to get removed from this job that she clearly shouldnt be in in the first place.

If she was my employee she would have been fired a long time ago!! This is so wrong and rude. There is no reason to be like that. She should sit behind a desk somewhere and talk on the phone, not deal with people face to face!
That is horrible to be looked at the way she looks at people. We are all people and she needs to learn that.
I don't blame the customer if he did call corporate. More people should call on her and maybe they will do something about her and get her out!
And she should be scared because how she is treating people!! If she would stop doing it she would have no reason to be afraid...

Yep, I know for sure if I was management and her manager, she would have been gone with the first complaint I received. Racism shouldn't be acceptable towards anyone (customer or not) at any work place. I continue to hope that more customers complain so she can be let go. I really hope so.

That lady is utterly rude! She should be reported to the management. She should not be treating people of color like that!

Yep I agree that is rude, I think it has been reported to management, but they tend to do nothing about it, so maybe if it gets to corporate they will do something about it I hope. Someone should otherwise these customers are going to take their business elsewhere.

Wow, I work in retail and this is pretty bad. I'm surprised that none of the customers have called corporate to complain. She doesn't have any right to yell at a little boy or anyone for that matter. Sad to say, but one day she'll get what's coming to her after all this racial profiling.
One of the supervisors at my old job would act like this in a way. AT the mall I worked at we had a specific type of shoplifter and most of the time we were able to identify who they were and just watch out for them. Well, this supervisor got to be a bit racist and would follow around anyone that matched the description. There are very distinct clues to tell if someone is shoplifting and there were times my supervisor was following someone innocent. A few times I saw the customers get mad at yell at her for following them around. She got too focused in on one type of person that she just automatically assumed that they were all shoplifters. Definitely not very welcoming to those who want to shop and truly pay for what they buy.

That's not even right how your supervisor did that either. I think the only reason you should follow a customer around is when you have reason to believe someone could be shop lifting, like you saw them stuff something in their purse. That is the only reason I would approach anyone. You are definitely right when you say it isn't welcoming to those who don't shoplift and are honest shoppers. I hope this lady at my job eventually changes or they just fire her. I am sure that most customers have already called into corporate, they are I hope investigating it.

What I don't get, beside the fact that she still has a job there, is why does she keep it up? She's making herself a nervous wreck and yet she continues this abusive behavior towards customers. Is she a wacko? Some day, probably soon, somebody's going to nail her in the parking lot in retaliation for what she's doing. I'm surprised that little boy's mother didn't come looking for her. Most kids tell their mothers when something like that happens and if my kid came home and told me that -- I'd be at that store in a minute looking for the manager. Unbelievable.

That is true most children do run and tell their parents when someone does them wrong, I know I would have ran into there too and raised all kind of hell. I too do not understand if people are threatening her for how she is treating customers then yeah why does she still do it. She is wacko most definitely.

Who does she think she is? While I am not wishing for her to be harmed despite her very nasty attitude, I sure hope someone straighten her out and make her see the errors of her ways. No race is ever superior over another. It's just so upsetting that in this moder time, some people cannot move on from the medieval way of thinking.
Somebody better inform or make a formal complaint to the corporate now.

I am sorry for the store manager/company having such a bigoted employee working for them as a guarding dog. It seem like she is against black and hispanic customers with no valid excuse; which can be really irritating and repulsive. She may well like to harass these two group of people as a way to unleash her learned biase from her elders, it is just bad for the business for her to treat the customers in such a despicable way, Yes, she should have been fired long time ago. I am wondering why she is still working there if she can't see every one come into the store as equal...Sigh!

Yeah, she is a racist. She does not care for other people, i mean the blacks, she just ignore them. That is very wrong. No one can accept that. As i think it can be a mental disorder, since she can't cooperate with the people around her. One must respect others in order them to respect that person. I am 100% sure she is neglected by many of the white people too, except for some few racists. But the problem is, if its not a mental disorder, we cant rectify it. The best solution for that type of an issue is to , let her understand that if she going to continue it she is gonna kicked out of the society.
No one likes to be underestimated.

Not only is this lady racial profiling or stereotyping, she's harassing these people and what she is doing is illegal. Not only does she stand the chance of someone retaliating against her, but she stands the chance of facing a harassment suit as well. Someone needs to talk to her or move her from the door as a greeter. I'm surprised someone hasn't already filed a complaint against her. Someone needs to confront her about what she's doing before something happens.

I think a lot of people been complaining about her, just nothing has been done about it yet and that is messed up. And a lot of people have talked to her and yet she still does it, I don't know what'll be done once it gets to the store manager, but I agree she at least needs to be removed from the door.
