The earths water should belongs to us all in my opinion, why are we made to pay for something that is natural to the planet?
Shouldn't water be free? since it's a natural resource to the earth it seems odd and unfair to make people pay for something that is not man made or created by company's
I don't know maybe this might be a stupid question, but I was looking at my water bill and couldn't help but wonder why we have to pay for water, don't get me wrong I know it must take a lot of expensive equipment to maintain, filter and pump water to everyone's homes, but it still seems wrong to make us pay for water since god added the resource for all of us, and water is necessary to human survival.

I'd be free if you had to walk to a stream, carry it home and then purify it to safely drink it.
As it is, they provide the pipes to get it to you, the energy to purify it to the point of being safe to drink and then take it away and clean it again...

Almost reminds me of the Councilor's late-night chat with Neo in MATRIX RELOADED: "'I look at these machines. Machines keeping us alive while machines are out there trying to kill us.' 'Yes, but we control these machines.' 'Oh, do we? What is control?' 'Well, we could turn these machines off if we wanted.' 'Ah! That's it: if we wanted, we could turn them off! But we have to ask: What would we do without water? without lights? without air?...'"
The thing is, it takes PEOPLE to keep the machines on, to keep them running smoothly. And people need things to survive. And the mix of things needed--different for every person--can only be acquired correctly BY that person, through the use of a tool called "money."
So you are paying for the survival of all the people who keep the water-treatment machines running, out of the money you are paid when you help keep the 'myLot (or whatever it is you filter and -are said to produce)'-machine running.

We aren't really paying for the water as such, we're paying for people to clean the water for us as this process costs quite a lot. If you wanted to, you could go and get water out of a river or collect rain water and drink that, as this would be free. But that kind of water isn't safe and it wouldn't taste good so it is important for that water to be clean before you are able to drink it. Water doesn't cost all that much each month if you pay on a meter, and it is much cheaper to get water out of a tap than it is to drink it out of a bottle.

Its simply because water utility is a big business here and most part of the world. though its abundant here in our country, we can't simply drink it from any source. It needs to be clean and remove the bacteria in order for us to utilize it for our daily consumption. Though the raw material is free, the processing of purifying it and bringing it to our houses would require a reasonable amount of money which people are willing to pay.
Of course, we can generate clean water if we could, but it would not be economical to do this simply because many of us do not have the time to do this. So we pay other people to deliver the water to us and enjoy a 24 hours water supply in our homes.

It is no doubt that water is natural resource but the clean water(I mean can be drinked and used by human beings)actually is a product,so every product will have a cost?right?

Hi apples99,
I agree that water is a product of nature and everyone should be entitled to free water. However, long gone are the days when we could just go to the nearest stream or well and get fresh clean water like what our ancestors did. Nowadays, the water is so poluuted that it needs to be purified and treated before it is potable. Alas it is we human beings who are to be blamed for polutting the water and environment. Therefore we need to pay for it. Simple as that!

Hi friend! Water is really free. We can have it from the streams, well, rivers, etc. But since this water is being brought to our homes, we need to pay for the services. Anyway, you always have the option to fetch you own water for free. Have a nice day!
