What do you mean Bible?

We often hear people say, " I believe the Bible", " I believe the Bible 100%", " I only believe what the Bible says", " the Bible is infallible" and many others. Yet, when you happened to discuss with them and quotes from what is commonly called Old Testament, they will immediately say, "the Old Testament is obsolete, no longer applicable for Christians today" and many other reasons/alibis.
What do you mean Bible? Is the New Testament considered a Bible without the Old Testament? or, Is the Old Testament considered a Bible without the New Testament? WHY?

I believe the Holy Bible. The Bible has been around for ages and the reason it has stood the test of time is because it is the word of God. The Word that He wanted us to learn and live by. If you read the Bible you will find that there is a verse in there to support any problem or facet of your life and if more people lived according to the scripture the world would be a much better place. The biggest reason that I think people say the Old Testament is obsolete is because it contains scripture and guidelines that they disagree with. The Bible, to me, is the most important book that I have. It's all about belief and faith. Faith is what carries us through life on a day to day basis. The Old Testament and the New Testament comes as a matching set. The Old Testament is just as important to Christians today as it was 2000 years ago. Read it and absorb it's glory.

I like Jatelo2's response but would add the 66 books are inspired by God (which I'm sure they meant). In the Greek for the word inspired from 2 Timothy, inspired is "God breathed." Also, I personally like to say "Holy Bible," because the term "bible" (small b) means simply a collection of books. The Holy Bible is the written Word of God. God bless!

Hello PastorP, greetings. I agree with you sir. Holiness can only come from God, for He alone is holy. In fact one of the names of God is Holy. A thing, a person or basically everything becomes holy, only because of God's presence, purpose and designs. And the Bible is one of them. However, even when we just write the bible in small b, or in capital B, that does not and will not diminish its being holy.
Your comment sir is highly appreciated. God Bless.

If the Bible said that the Old Testament is obsolete and no longer applicable today meant they really didn't understand the Bible.
Jesus said, He doesn't come here to destroy the old but fulfilled it. It meant that the old can never be destroy but it is incomplete without the new testament.
If someone said that we shouldn't follow the Old Testament, we should ask where in the New Testament written that we should not follow the Old Testament and it is obsolete. It is a challenge for someone who think they know their Bible but actually didn't understand it.

Hello marcmm, greetings. Actually, we should understand and respect everybody's beliefs. After all God made man a free moral agent, to choose and to decide for himself. Most often than not, it is prejudices, close mindedness, and pre conceived ideas and belief that blocked the way to fully understand the Bible. Allow me to share one interesting Bible verse, "These were more fair-minded (noble) than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11). Cheers.

Hi,
I am Hindu. So I don't know so much about bible. In every religion there are holy books which teaches us to believe on God, ways of living life, to become good human beig and so on. Teachings of all the religions are same.

Hello roshigo, greetings. That is what I am saying all along. No Religion is teaching and preaching an all out evil. Respect, being good and love one another is not limited to any of these Religions. If you have read my presented discussion "know your enemy, and I mean Real Enemy" I wrote in there, "Let it be known brothers and sister, whether you are Christian, Muslim, Orthodox, Hindu, Buddhist, or whatsoever, WE ARE NOT EACH OTHER ENEMIES...". Why not read it my friend and give your comment.

There are just people who have this sort of "legal" thinking. The Bible is the whole package old and new. The old testament just shows us what once was. Some of the texts in the Bible should not be taken literally and yet some people do. That's the reason why a simple talk about the Bible can lead to heated arguments. In my personal experience, reading and understanding the Bible is hard. I tried reading the Bible all at once and I only get confused to the point that I got a head ache. Then my brother told me to actually pray for understanding and enlightenment before reading the Bible. I followed his advice and my Bible readings got better.
The Bible is still applicable to us today however people are not open to it anymore. I remember this quote, "Easy is the descent to hell". We always want easy (that's the whole point of ready to eat, ready to cook, ready to wear). That's why people are saying its not applicable anymore. The norms had change. Following the Bible means fighting the norms. And not many people would actually want to be the 'different one'outcast'outsider. Bible says no to pre-maritalSex yet we see teenage pregnancy on t.v.

Hello angelkarah, greetings. I for one encourages you to spend even just a little time reading it. The Old Testament is the place wherein the very words of God are written. Jesus Christ among others said very plain and simple, "...Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God" (Mat.4:4).

Sometimes it really is just a huge enigma this BIBLE thingy..Even as a Christian..from time to time lots of things baffle me with this religion stuff. But as a human being this is all that I can say. Why should we need to fight cuz of these irrelevant questions? We should just try to believe sometimes, you know? What's there to lose in believing? Everything in this world has a reason why it became that way. I believe that there's a God above the heavens, the one and only Alpha and Omega. And this book the so called BIBLE exists now because of him. This book is full of confusing wonders and intelligence that is out of bounds with this world. Why can't we just trust and read in awe. The wisdoms that can be found in this book produces sweet fruits when used wisely. And we can all live in peace, IF ONLY WE BELIEVED:( But we humans, while still in this immoral world and body..will always be fooled and blinded by the things we only desire to see with our eyes and not the heart within.
just..stop for a while and believe. And maybe something might change..

Hello sadmeow, greetings. First, I would like to assure you no one is fighting here. Second, nothing is irrelevant in here. The topic being discussed is the Bible. Almost, if not all who participate in bible discussion "believe" in God. It is just a matter of what, who, why and how you believe. Allow me my friend and brother to give you one intriguing Bible verse, "YOU BELIEVE THAT THERE IS ONE GOD. YOU DO WELL. EVEN THE DEMONS BELIEVE AND TREMBLE" (James 2:10).
I meant no offense, everything I say in love. All the best.

The Bible is not true entirely. It has many inner collisions. The Old Testament is the basis of Judaism, and the New Testament is the real basis of Christianity. There are so many scruples about compatibility of the books. From scientific point of view,
the Old Testament prophecies about Jesus are very very allusive. It is a question of credit.

Hi alexopenmind. greetings. Welcome to the club. It seems to me you are a religious person. Noticeably, your very first comment is about the Bible. Your comment is very much appreciated. Collisions probably you mean contradictions, am I right?
You are right in saying that the Old Testament (as popularly called), is the basis of Judaism. But to the Jews it is not called Old Testament but the Holy SCRIPTURES. The Jews in general do not acknowledge JESUS as the long awaited Christ or Messiah, that's why they never accept the so called New Testament as an addition to their scriptures.
The New Testament understandably, comes from the writings of the apostles and
disciples of Jesus, the Christ, where the word Christian/Christianity evolved
(Acts 11:26).
I wish, we can discuss your concerns about your doubts of the Bible as well as the Prophecies about Jesus. Suffice it say, all existing religions of today, everything is based on FAITH from beginning to end. God Bless.
All the best mangtony.

An interesting Messianic Prophecy:
"The time is coming, declares the Lord when I will raise up a righteous descendant from David’s line, and he will RULE as a wise KING. He will do what is just and right in THE LAND. 6 During his lifetime, Judah will be saved and Israel will live IN SAFETY. And his name will be The Lord Is Our Righteousness."
Jeremiah 23:5-6
Is it really about Jesus?
