Tourism Department confident of attaining P1.9T revenue target

DOT Chief Jimenez said that, aside from the P1.9 trillion revenue target , another sectoral goal is to attract at least 10 million foreign tourists by 2016. Domestic tourists are also expected to increase up to 35.5 million by 2010 since many budget airlines have been offering lower rates and better deals. Jimenez also said that the tourism sector is also expected to generate up to 7 million jobs for Filipinos by 2016. The DOT is also studying the proposal to exhibit Imelda's jewelry collections in Manila. Jimenez, however, said "notoriety isn't exactly the best way to attract tourists."
