my neighbor planted indoor plants and cactus in one pot.. told her that it is not advisable, sooner or later one of them will die, explained her why, yet she won't listen, said she knows what she is doing.. she watered the plants every other day.. the cactus absorbed too much water and wasn't under the sun much..now after 2 weeks the cactus died.. now she was asking me what went wrong.. i explained it to her before and i will do it again.. no matter how careful or hard you take care of your plants, if you are doing it all wrong, it just won't work..

I agree with you. But there are stubborn people who won`t listen to reasons. I have beautiful indoor plants and equally beautiful cacti. But they have very different needs in soil, water and light.

I do love to make dish garden. It makes a real cool centerpiece in center tables. And yes you are right you can't mix cactus with indoor plants because cactus has a different way of survival. It is also not meant to be placed indoor because they need a lot of sun.
There are people who refuse to learn by simply being told. They need to undergo trial and error to learn and that's exactly what happens to your neighbor. She now learns through her mistake and of course even if she would not admit, she regrets the fact that she did not listen to you all at once.

hi,
yes that is true, because as of now i have a money tree at home and as i have read to the forum on how to take care to this indoor plant, most of them told that the plant should water once a week especially if the plant wasn't under the sun or stay long under the sun,and it is working.

I totally agree with your insights with regards to this matter. However, I did figured it out why you entitled this discussion as "dish garden".

Well, we can't really impose people to listen if they don't have an open mind for suggestions. At least you have done your part in telling her about what you think, she can't blame you now, can she? More than the dish gardening, I hope she also learns that sometimes, it is okay to heed advices if it makes sense. And we can't be right all the time.
