Last night I made a birthday dinner for my son. His birthday isn't until Oct. 8 but he is going on a trip and won't be around. My little granddaughter is only with him every other week so this was about the only time we could have a little surprise party for him. Well while he was eating he said...."this is so good mom!" I said, "maybe it's because you didn't have to make it"...he said...."nope it's because whenever your mom cooks for you its the best!" Well today I went to Taco Bell because I won a free combo there......well it tasted soo good! LOL....I think it tasted better because it was free! LOL....is there times when the food tastes so much better to you? Like if someone else cooks or some situation like that?

There is no doubt that whatever mom cooks is always delicious and is the best. Even if my mom would cook bottle gourd for the meal it would taste heaven to me. She is a superb cook who can add flavor to any... any thing. I can understand how your son must have melt. I would have been a wonderful birthday feast for him. Anything that we receive for free has its own taste. Once I ordered for a domino pizza and got a free delivery, for the delivery boy was 15 minutes late. I asked him if he would be charged for the pizza from his salary. He said no. So we got a free pizza party that day and believe me that pizza tasted several times better than the one we pay for.

Well great to hear that your son had a great time celebrating his birthday. Some times the food that we taste and try stays in our mind for ever as they are very delicious so much so that we feel like having it everyday. The food that are made with so much of love, affection and heart always tastes good to the people they are meant to be served and that is probably what has happened with your son and its obvious that when food available is free of cost then it has to taste better. Ha ha. What say?

How nice of you to cook a home cooked meal for your son. Sounds like he really appreciated his birthday dinner. Free food is always a special meal. Not having to cook is the best ever. I haven't really cooked a meal in well over a year. Our stove and oven had to be disconnected because repairs were needed. I did buy a new stove and oven but they are not installed yet. The boxes sit in the dining room near the kitchen. The weather is getting cooler so am now in the mood to call the fellow who is going to do the repairs, install both and get them connected. I never mastered cooking either but at least we won't starve. My mother was a terrific cook, I did get some of her recipes but the meal never tasted as good as when she made the same meal.

My mom never wrote anything down so when she passed we were at a loss for how to make some of the best things she did make.

Good moms always add love to every dish they make. so your son was correct. The birthday feast was better because you made it. As for free food? It does taste better, lol.

My kids are excellent cooks and how that happened I don't know, lol! I don't feel I'm a good cook but when I make certain recipes for the holidays, my kids can't get enough of it! There are certain one's that they are always asking me to make, which of course I do. I think it's because there is nothing but love put into it. If I go and eat out which is very seldom, it ALWAYS tastes good to me, haha! And when my kids have me over to eat, I'm in heaven. If they barbecue, it's even better yet, lol! My one daughter's husband use to be a chef for a restaurant and let me tell you Jill, there has NEVER been a time he has either cooked or baked something that I feel would win first prize somewhere. He just has a knack for it and the food is delicious. It could be the simplest meal, but he'll make it taste out of this world. So, I guess I can say yessireee, it happens every time I go somewhere else to eat and that's fine with me!

When I read it I thought.....he would win a prize anytime...you didn't need to correct it! LOL....guess I just knew he was a great chef!

Oh well, what can I say....it just didn't sound right to me! He is an excellent cook, baker, etc., and even the guys in the family love anything he brings over for a holiday or a party. He use to do all the cooking when we went camping and you can bet your life your steak was going to be cooked the way you loved it. This way not his passion though and went into a different direction. He now does flooring and tile, more precision work. I don't know if you've ever heard of the Cleveland Clinic but he's done some of their floors in the hospital. Really nice guy and I'm happy my daughter is married to him. Wow, all this out of a discussion that you made cooking for your son....too funny!

"My one daughter's husband use to be a chef for a restaurant and let me tell you Jill, there has NEVER been a time he has either cooked or baked something that I feel would win first prize somewhere." DUH, DUH, DUH, I of course meant to say "wouldn't" have won first prize somewhere"...I'm so idiotic sometimes..my brain works faster than my fingers can type.

Food always tastes better to me whenever I don't have to be the one that cooks it. You see, I am typically the one that does the cooking in our house and it is actually rare for me to not be the one that is cooking. Well, last night we went over to my mother's house for a little bit and while we were there my brother decided to cook some burgers. Those tasted so very good to me and I know that the reason that they tasted so good was because of the fact that I didn't have to cook them.

I think in every person's life, especially when the food is fixed from someone else like when you are invited over to their house that you appreciate and enjoy the food more, especially if it is food you enjoy. I can remember some yrs. back when my Aunt was alive, she knew I loved her Fried Chicken and made it a point to have me around anytime she was cooking it. I have never found anyone who can fry chicken that good since.

There are all kinds of reasons why food can taste better. 1) Made by Mom! 2) Made by someone else who loves you 3) Free 4) Didn't have to make it myself 5) A favourite 6) Exotic 7) Don't get it that often ... And many more!

I do think food tastes better when it is free. My mom told me a long time ago that I wanted her to make a dish that my Nana made for me when we visited her. So my mom made it. And I told her it didn't taste the same. She said she made it with the same ingredients. She chalked it up to nothing tasting as good as it would if it were made at Nana's.

That is for sure....I have memories of things my mom or grandmother made and I can't make them as good.....but I think memories have a way of embellishing things! LOL

My husband and I have had conversations like that before. I don't like the way I make scrambled eggs, I think his are better, but he says mine are better. I honestly like his better because he makes them better. I stir mine too much and they aren't as firm as his.. so I think his are better. I've also made recipes that my foster mom has made but they don't taste like hers. It tastes close, but not quite there. Sometimes I think maybe I've missed an ingredient.. but I think it's just her.. she's the missing ingredient, her special touch. I've given up on trying her recipes because I can't get them right. Unfortunately she's not with us anymore, so if I am goofing it up I'll never know, and I'll never have tuna casserole or SOS the way I like it. She also had another recipe that she called "cat puke" because she made it one time and that's what someone said it looked like, but it was just a white sauce with broccoli served over pasta. I don't know how she made the sauce.. it was an old Campbell's recipe she found one time when I was little and it was a dish we had frequently. I never got the recipe from her so I'll never have that dish again. I don't even remember the real name of it to look it up, we always called it "cat puke".

My mom is the best cook in the world. There is no doubt about it. I like every single dish she cooks. My mom is not satisfied until I give her my opinion about the dishes she cooks. I am her best admirer. But I like everything that comes free. I love to eat and probably the whole world knows it by now. Yesterday we had a feast in our office. Like always, I was a prominent figure in dinning hall. Everyone around me reveled, rejoiced. They were particular about what I eat. Everyone wanted me to taste his favorite dishes, and I did and delivered my opinion. Someone remarked, "There are 10 ice cream cones kept for you." "It's okay, I will adjust" I said and then went tyrannically around the buffet. I ate all, tasted all. My boss said, "Eat, but don't ask for leave next week." I chuckled. Then I counted how many times the deputy was served rice and told her all about it afterwards. Eating, generally makes me happy. It always gives me a good humor. If it's free, I am in the best of my moods.

Hi friend, good to hear that your son likes your food a lot, advance b'day wishes to him. As you told that you enjoyed the food in the restaurant. I too enjoyed my food a lot of times, if we are in a happy mood and take food along with our family members and beloved persons, surely the food will taste a lot

Firstly, that is just a precious story about your family. Secondly, even though I cook quite well, I actually like it better when other people cook for me. I guess food does taste better when someone else is cooking it, lol! I can't think of another reason. Oh, and I always like my mom's cooking the best, so I can understand why your son said what he said :)

Hi Jill! I don't have much time to do anything other than think candles so I just have a few minutes right now to....well you know. I think your son had the best of all worlds that night. While I believe almost all food tastes better when someone else cooks it but, no food tastes as good as when mom makes it. My husband once said to his mom-why does this always taste so good when you make it? After letting them get some conversation in I told him no food is ever as good as when your mother makes it, providing she's a good cook. Your son was also with all the people he loves. He was in a positive, loving environment where he didn't have to brace for unkind words. Not much can beat eating at the same table with your little daughter who is still too young to have "attitude" and your kind and loving mother! You must have had a wonderful time yourself! What a joy! Oh ya, fast food is sometimes very good if I won't see my stove for a while.
