Why Are Amy & Rory "the Ponds" & Not 'the Williamses'?

I mean, even the BBC-A announcer referred to them as "the Ponds"---it's not just The Doctor who does it!

There is an episode shortly after Amy and Rory got married where The Doctor was talking to Rory and called him Mr. Pond. Rory responded with "It doesn't work that way" The Doctor grinned and they both said "Yes, it does" That's why they are the Ponds. Just like The Doctor and River are "The Songs".

Not to mention that it also makes it (even though it'd still be the case) that The Doctor is now related to Amy & Rory through their daughter, River Song. He's now a Pond, just like the rest of them. On a related note, has anyone else noticed that Amy & Rory lived at 221? Recognize that number from another very popular Steve Moffat show?

The "River Song" Reveal wouldn't have worked out,for one,if they had gone with the "Williamses"! The Doctor has some quirky ideas..Fashion,bow ties, and such..While Humanity is "His Bag",he still can't help being a little bit off at times, just showing that he is actually an Alien..

DOCTOR WHO-scriptwriting: one of the very few places where semantics are important.
