What would you do if the electricity just disappeared?

I'm watching the TV show Revolution where the electricity of the world just shuts off. Everything stops working, even if its runs on batteries. I guess it's going on the premise of an electric current inside the battery, I don't know. Anyway, I'm not sure what I would do if that could actually happen. I know as a civilization as a whole, we're basically screwed. You'd have to learn to adapt to a whole new way of life. Some people wouldn't have it so hard, particularly if you were Amish, or already living off the Grid. However, there are people who would have a really tough time adjusting. It would take me a while to do so, I would thing. I couldn't give you an honest answer unless I actually had to live that way. The only thing I'd like to hope is that I would have some sort of preparedness for the life I'd live after the fact.

I depend on electricity, so I honestly don't know that I would be able to adapt if I was to wake up one morning and there was no electricity at all. The reason for this is because of the fact that we use electricity for everything from our comfort in life to getting to where we need to go. I guess we would have to become a hunting and gathering people again, but I don't believe that most people would be able to adapt like that.

One thing is definitely going to happen if the world electricity just shut off, i will not have the luxury to read your discusssion and post a response anymore with my computer, it will be su*k and sad if i will have to miss you and the rest of the Mylot members every day, without electricity, there is no Mylotting for me too. Life must be really scre*up if that is allowed to happen where world electricity suddenly disappear into nowhere. Darkness will engulf all of us when the night fall, and computer is only good for the land fill and junk yard. The world will turn upside down instead of upside up as usual, our life will have to change drastically to adapt to the reality soon.

Of course, it's annoying when we are watching a movie and suddenly there's power interruption. But, we cannot avoid it to happen, anytime of the day. All we need is to prepared for this things especially when it happens in the evening.

I would try to cope with that as fast as I could. When the power went off in my city here not few days ago we lighted candies and we talked for a long time so it is FUN too. I just missed like when he slept and I couldn't read a book or something but then if there was no electricity whatsoever I could read at daytime right?

we can always make more electricity or use wind/water/solar power. otherwise we would just use fire for heat and light. as for entertainment we would find something else to do. as for food we'd use salt to preserve the food or some other preservative

I think some people who have no survival instinct or skill set would freak out. We have all the gear to survive without electricity. I think we would miss a lot of things, but we would easily survive.

Well you know there are things like many I don't think I could live with out a few things. With having to live on a budget one tries to reduce the amount of power they consume. However, I don't think I could live with out power to use things like the washing machine, fridge, micro, or stove. It would have to be a community effort to do things like meals and laundry the hard way. There was a reason why Women in the olden days spent the majority of their day in the kitchen because it took that long to cook a meal and bake over a wood stove or camp fire. Then you think about washing clothes in between off of a wash board or rock in a stream... no thanks.

I think civilization would freak out at first if we lost all electricty in the world. We rely so much on electricity for just about everything! It would take us awhile to adjust but we would. It would not be easy at first but it could be done. I would not like it! No tv,no computer,no radios,no ipods and no telephones for example! That is so scarey to think about! I would learn to adapt,if I liked to or not!

Waaaaahh... it's the word that would come out in my mouth. That would be terrible, if their is no electricity.. everything around here ran on electricity. Many companies would go down and the economy would surely fall.. I know, many would find ways to generate electricity again.. I'm sure man will find a way to cope up with the changes..

I think peole would be resilient enought to deal with that happening. Sure, it would be hard at first, and everything would be chaotic. But, we were born to survive and I just know that we could be able to weather it. We have survival instincts and that will help us through it. Though, of course, I wish that would never happen.

I think, like others here have said, that society and individuals would freak out and be in a panic. However, we are humans and one of the things we are very good at doing is adapting. Once people calmed down and realized that electricity was no longer something viable in our world, we would adapt. After all, electricity wasn't discovered all that long ago. Yes, it was "always" here, but no one knew about it for a very long time. So, we'd go back to hopefully days of the pioneers rather than the bleak world being portrayed on Revolution. I would sincerely hope we would remain (at least here in the USA) the United States of America, with our "normal" government, and all we'd be missing is electricity and the things that run on electricity. I doubt it would be an easy life, but again I hope nothing as dramatic as "Revolution."
