Fresh vegetables and fruits are the safest food that we can eat. But in my place(i don't know if its the same in your place) they say vegetables are not safe to eat raw anymore because of the chemicals sprayed on it. I love eating raw tomato but i was discourage because they say it's not really safe eating it raw. So now we make a home garden and plant some tomatoes on it. Do you eat veggies? How about eating it raw? Is your veggies safe to be eaten raw?

I eat home grown foods quite often be it through a vegetable gardens my family have or through organic farmer foods. Fruits and vegetables are one of those things, that due to chemical usage can do more harm then good, but in many places the foods are heavily inspected and as long as they are within guidelines it should be safe to eat. The mass production of large quantities, the need for perfect and beautiful products means that the use of chemicals has become widespread and with little care to how it is applied as long as the production increases. The only thing to do is hope that the food sold is safe and if possible have a little herb or vegetable garden even if it does not give a lot of quantity at least it will be healthier.

I eat raw veggies. And you are right that some vegetable are grown not organically but with the help of chemicals. When I was in another country and lived for a few months, my family feels that the fruits and vegetables are not safe. hat we would always do is to wash them thoroughly and sprinkle some vegetable cleaner into the water and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Then we wash it with fresh clean water again.

Vegetables and fruits grown on lands irrigated or flooded with contaminated water are not safe as they might also be contaminated with germs present in the water and this is specially so if the vegetables and fruits grow directly on the land or well within a few feet from the ground through which the germs can ascend.

Hello chentunacao, In my place too, there is a major concern of fruits and vegetables being sprayed with pesticides and fertilizers. But I was advised by a doctor once to soak my veggies and fruits thoroughly, unpeeled, in salt water for at least 30 minutes. This dislodges the chemicals deposited on the outer surface and even removes harmful microbes, dirt etc. Wash them thoroughly again in running water and you are good to go! Since not every one can afford organically grown produce as they are quite expensive, this method is quite safe and practical.

I`m planting veggies so that some of the veggies I eat are organic. When I was in chemo the doctor forbid me to eat raw veggies from the market. But you can steam them or cook or sautee them.

It really depends on the source of veggies and fruits you are eating. I live in a province and that is why I can assure myself of having tasty, healthy and safe fruits and veggies.

It is best to have a vegetable garden on the back yard if you have some space around your home. it is true that nowadays vegetables are full of chemicals and not safe to eat. It is sad because farmers are become money minded and are using too much chemicals to grow the crops in the shortest time possible. I am also going to plant in my back yard soon. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful day ahead.
