I have a question about blogs and websites

Now, to me this is just silly, but I thought I would get another view. I have a friend who is starting a blog. I have always thought the whole purpose behind a blog is to post your own stuff. Your opinions, views, things that you know something about, have meaningful content, generate a following, and in generally be a happy little group to yourselves..The title of the blog has to do with fashion, but he has nothing about fashion on the blog, all you see are tattoos, because he says that is what people are looking at. He did some copy and paste with someone else's stuff, about unrelated content, and in my view is stealing someone elses work and effort. Am I wrong in seeing it this way? I was recently told "write what you know and don't steal other people's work. Plagerizing someone isnt cool. Why start a blog about something you know nothing about, just in hopes someone will look? Any thoughts on this?
