Hi Filipino Mylotters, How do you react about the new cyber crime law? Is there something you like and you dont like about this law...
Right now allot of my friends on facebook turns their default photo into black image, this is their ways to protest to the law.
For me, I cant feel the effect of it because I know and I can manage my online duties, I dont have any worries that I might violate the law... But in some case, I want them (The Philippine Government) to leave my other networking site such as 4shared, tumblr, twitter and etc.
And they dont have to take it seriously for some reason that they have to solve poverty, education, global warming and other serious matter in our country.. If only other Filipinos can able to manage their self, to how to use properly the internet or the social community world, There is no cybercrime law and everybody has a freedom of speech today.

To be honest, I think there is really nothing to worry about this law if you use the internet in an honest way. I do not think this law will stop anyone for just posting a comment or sharing something on the net. I am not fully aware of the full context of the law but I think that protesters are just over emphasizing about the provision about the online libel which the penalty was a bit absurd.

Yes indeed. You do not have to worry about this act if your in good faith in using the internet. Only those people guilty of bad faith and negligence would react and do a massive protest with regards to this.

If that's the case, then put up a government of your own with a ZERO percent absence of flaw. No offense
Here is a good problem that is very evident to most of us Filipinos. We just focus on blaming the government without even thinking the rightful process and factual basis of such act. We tend to focus on our rights and keeps ignoring our obligations and responsibilities.

You must be aware of it, friend. Because that law affect all of us using the internet. You might not be worries about it but you can't say in the end. Because if you read the law itself. There is no specific scope and that is bothersome into us. They might be going after you without any further notice or any warrant from the judge. Because even if your careful enough in what you say online. There might some people to invade your privacy that worse things was you are the one who is being prosecuted not those culprits doing wrong with you...
The law might be okay if there is an intervention of the judge which determined first the gravity of the crimes being committed before issuing any warrants. But that law give the authority to the enforcement agency to anything without any warrant...
We must all protest into this kind of law. No will be benefit on this but those politicians. If they want a law on cyber crimes they shall not be inserted anything suppressing the freedom expression which is guaranteed by the constitution...

That is actually the crux of the matter. There are people who could not manage themselves properly in what they do, including online endeavors. Worse is that some deliberately mismanage themselves, hiding under the guise of freedom of speech. So I guess the cyber crime law was inevitable, including here in our country. The increasing number of Filipinos internet users are spawning also an increase in the number of unscrupulous individuals who use the internet to do wrongful acts.

Totally agree on this. Most people only sees the internet as a tool that is very prone for abuse. Many do not understand and are aware of their responsibilities in managing their selves in such a way that they would not insult or hurt other people. With regards to beam's insight about hiding under the freedom speech, it is also a valid ground that should also be considered.

For me, it is just a way of politicians of protecting their self from being bashed online...that is why they created that bill, especially Tito Sotto who greatly suffered cruelty in the Net because of what he has done from stealing ideas from a blog writer...
So in short, this bill is against freedom of speech but not on stealing ideas! ahahaah...

I cannot really find any good reason to hate this act. It is really a good help in regulating people from abusing their freedom in the internet. I think those people who are against this are the same people who are guilty of posting craps, insulting and making negative stories about certain people. I think they are also over acting because they cannot post any insulting words or messages anymore.
