Old Discussions

I have a question. Can I still respond to a discussion which has been started a few years ago? Or are those discussions actually closed for comments except for reading. The reason I'm asking is because I came across so many old discussions (3-5 years) and people don't comment anymore, but since I'm practically still new and I'm interested, then I want to respond. Or is it better if I just start a new discussion with similar topics?

I respond to those discussions when they seem interesting. When you respond, they are brought to life again and other people can see it. Maybe the person who posted it is not here anymore, but this site is about ideas and interests so go on. If it has not been deleted, it might be a nice discussion.

In fact, i came across some old and interesting discussions through this way, too. someone had respond to it and i saw it in the recent section. Since it is a very interesting discussion, i do drop by and gives my opinion as well.

"When you respond, they are brought to life again and other people can see it." Yes, I agree! So even if the original starter is not around anymore, but others can still join in especially if the topic is still relevant. Thanks :)

Exactly! So it's actually good to dig up some of these discussions, they're still relevant.

Yes, you can still respond to old discussions. It's just many of the starters of those old discussions may not be active anymore; so the chance of you getting a comment back from them are slim. But any one who happens to catch the old discussions while it is being brought back can also add responses and comments to them...

I had not thought about that point, but obviously you are right. If the discussion starter has stopped using Mylot then they will be unaware of the response. Nevertheless, it will appear back in the recent listing and could attract attention from other members. It is not uncommon for responders to discuss among themselves.

Hello, Asylum. Sorry i'm so late responding, but I haven't been receiving my notifications from myLot for DAYS now so I didn't know when I have people responding to me. I hope mylot fix any glitch they might have regarding this, soon. And yes, I agree. So long as people still want to discuss a topic, even if it is years old, then it is still relevant.

Yes, that one of the reasons I asked, because the people who started the discussions might not be around anymore. But I'm fine so long as I can comment and give my opinion, even without response. Other people besides me can still read them and get something from them. Thanks :)

There are many times I have been known to respond back in a discussion that was started this long ago, and if it is one I have never responded back too, especially if I know the person is still active here, that is a Good thing. Personally since we get paid for any discussion we decide to respond back in, I never think twice most of the time about responding back in.

That is a good thing. Aside from the fact that you get paid for comments, it also shows that you care not only about the discussions, but the people who respond as well. I try to respond every time to people who directly address me, not only on myLot, as well. Have a nice day :)

Hi lynnes75, there isn't any restriction old discussions are closed for comments. If new responses on old discussions don't have any comments like what you have noticed might be the creators of those discussions are no longer active here anymore. Or the writers are busy on their new discussions only most probably due to the lack of time. Discussions without any comments added not only happen in old discussions only, I can see many new discussions writers don't comment back their new topics as well. Some just comment back to certain amount of responses only, whereas the the following responses or response page are blank with any comments. For those who take good care of their discussion would comment back to both their old and new discussions now and then. Discussions with similar topics and contents having the fate to be deleted due to discussion guidelines. If not they are not been found and reported yet Happy posting and have a nice day

You are very much welcome lyness75 I always participate in discussions that I'm interested and have things to share with, no matter they are new and old. I would be happy if the writers comment back my posts like what you do It's great if having back and forth comments on the same topic It means that it is a good and quality topic to let us keep on discussing continuously. Anyway it would be very much better just dropping Thank You in the response box. Obviously it's completely not a discussion Happy posting and have a nice day!

Thank you for taking the time to explain further, my myLott friend. I'm assured now I can post in old threads. And you're right, sometimes people don't respond, whether in old or new discussions. But I hope they do, especially in the new ones, because these ARE discussions, lol! Well, at least a short response to show they're checking their discussions for feedback o.O Have a nice day to you as well :)

LOl, this is true :D Obviously, when you want to discuss something, it would take more than a simple "thank you response". Have a nice day yourself as well :)

Hi ! There is no bar on responding to old posts. If any post evince interest you may post your response. You could respond to any post even if the user (host) has already decided the 'best response'. If the user is active and responsive, s/he may post comments on your response.

Hello back :) Thanks for explaining. I actually don't feel like starting new discussions because I'm still not sure if I can manage to stick to the forum rules, haha! So it's nice to know the old ones are still opened for discussions.

You start new discussions without any fear or hesitation, do not worry you are wise enough not to violate the guidelines. All the best.

I notice when I search for discussions in myLot, many times the results are mostly old discussions of 1 year or older...

For me, it's when i respond to a new topic of discussions which interests me, that I'll notice the 'similar discussions' column to the right. Then I'll see some discussions which not only interest me, but where I think I can contribute positively. But you're right too, Silverfox, at last I'll earn even if no one respond or read them anymore :P Thnx, guys :)

Of course you can,and the age of a discussion is not really relevant. The only reason that these discussions have not received any responses for such a long time is that when members do not respond for a while the discussion moves further down the listings and is not noticed as much. The only ways to find these discussions would be either searching for a discussion on that topic or by checking the starter's profile page. If you respond to an old discussion it will reappear in the recent list, and may well become quite active again.

That seems to be how it works, yes. An old discussion can just pop up in the similar discussions column on the right hand side, and when I see one which interest me, I always want to comment there. People will notice it again too, perhaps they didn't when it was first posted. So this is actually good being able to comment even after all these years. TQ :)

Ressurecting old discussions is fun! I do it from time to time and what's more fun is seeing others also respond after you. Although it's possible that may not be the case most of the time because the owner of the discussion may mo longer be active and even those who responded before. But if an old discussion catches your interest, why wouldn't it be possible that other mylotters will find it interesting too?

I also noticed that a few of the old discussions I responded to now have newbies responding to them as well, so it's great that people have new interests in them. Thanks, Happy myLotting to you too :)

I would encourage you to respond to any old discussion you like. I don't tend to because often the author is no longer active on the site and I like to get responses to my comments. This is a discussion site and I prefer to see a little back and forth.

Mylot is a place where we can enjoy our each other's thinkings. If you feel inerest then you can read, respond or comment on all old topics. So far your knowledge, if any knowledge exists in here we need not copy it as we have enjoyed it already. Rather we can start a new topic. You can gather knowledge to create a new topic in a creative way. Many a times we can find serious informations in some old discussions.

This is true. Plus, relevant discussions are relevant, however long the time has passed. If I do start a similar topic of discussion, I can too, to keep tings fresh and more chances of newbies joining in. TQ, and Happy myLotting :)

So far as I am aware, none of the discussions posted here ever have an expiration date and remain open until you or admin takes them down. So, yes. Like this post here from 2012 I can still respond to it. Although, I am doing so in THIS case knowing I will never get a response from it. But that's okay. I guess I will let myLot have the penny no one else will otherwise get, and MAYBE that helps the site? I have no idea, but nonetheless, I do it anyway. lol
