Lately I have switched to raw sugar which is browner and coarser as some people told me it was healthier. is this true. I find that raw sugar seems to be less sweet and so I end up using a wee bit more of it! It also costs a bit more. Is it worth switching to raw sugar?

Raw sugar is just that and probably your best bet health wise. White sugar is processed and made white. So I would think the raw one is best.

I think raw is better, yes, the brown one. Because it's more natural unlike the white one which already been to many processes to make it white. Here in our country we have brown, white and "wash". I don't know why they call it that way but's lighter than brown but not nearly white. I think mid-processed.

I think it's only here in the Philippines. It's almost same as brown or raw sugar, only lighter.

I always choose the raw or organic one, so I'll stick with brown sugar. White sugar contains chemicals where it was used for processing its crystals before they turned refined or washed. It is worth switching to raw sugar because it is healthier to consume than white ones.

My Great-Great Grandmother used to solely use brown sugar, but I say there are certain instances that call for white sugar instead. Brown sugar has its own flavor along with the sweet; so while that may go good with Coffee and is great for cooking with, when making Kool-Aid you may want to use white sugar; brown sugar muddles the flavor. I would try the brown sugar with your regular routine, and pay attention to the difference in taste of your foods. If you can live with the taste, and can afford the increase in price, then go with it. Other than that I would keep both in the house.

Thanks for your advice. I don't seem to mind it with coffee so much. So its a good start at least!

Yes, I've been using raw sugar the past few years since a friend told me that it is indeed healthier. The whitening process involved for the white sugar is really what made me prefer raw sugar. And I like the fact that it is less sweet because I really do not need more sugar to be too sweet...

Thats good that you like less sweet. I have to get rid of my sweet tooth I guess and enjoy raw sugar.

I think its a personal choice raw sugar is just in its natural state. I think its like the same with sea salt and regular table salt people say sea salt is healthier its not its still salt just as bad for people who have high blood pressure but no point in arguing it. If you aren't a fan of processed foods than maybe the raw sugar is best for you it will take time for your taste buds to adjust to the difference in sweetness.

You have me curious now. I have tried a few different versions, but never raw. Must add it to my grocery list just to give it a try!!
