I try to make out a meal plan for my family for the whole month. The price of food is becoming so high that I have to spend more and more. I can't afford to spend more on groceries than I do now. I have been looking for cheap recipes to feed large family but always come up with same ideas. I need to be creative so meals dont become so boring for my family. Does anyone know good idea to make meals cheap?

make a dish of hash You take hamburger meat, fry it, with a green pepper or pepper of your choice, then drain the grease away. put it in a large pan that has a cover Add one large can of tomatoes, and just a small bit of water in the can add i teaspoon of chili power, one 8th spoon of garlic or more if you love garlic one 8th of cayenne pepper or more if you love it one 8th of black pepper or more if you like it one 8th of salt add 3 or 4 cups of uncooked rice mix it all together, while heating on the stove then place it in the oven with the cover on it for 50 to 60 minutes at 400 degrees.

This sounds very good and cheap recipe to make. Could be stretched very easily with extra veggies that are onsale too. Also a big plus is it would be easy to make it gluten free because I have problems with gluten so flourless cooking is great!

Personally, I think you are not far from the norm, as their are so many of us even with smaller families in the same boat. It seems like the less you have to spend, the more prices tend to rise up. But the good thing about the internet is you can always find some creative recipes that are easy to make and may not cost much. Or by throwing different types of items together with noodles and make your own casseroles.

Casseroles do tend to make it alittle easier to stretch the budget. Meat is so expensive but used in a casserole with pasta you can make it stretch further. I don't know what people did before the internet to find cheap recipes lol I am addicted to looking for new and creative meal ideas!

I have recently had to think about ways in which I can cut costs from shopping, and one of the things that I have discovered is that if you bulk buy some foods then you can save a lot of money. I managed to pick up a bag of pasta which contained 30 portions for just £3. This means that you could feed your family probably several times for such a small amount of money. Things like tinned tomatoes are also very easy to buy for as little as 30p each, so it would cost around 35p per person for a whole meal, which I think is absolutely excellent value.

Buying in bulk is excellent idea. It is easy to find pasta at a good price if you buy larger amounts at one time. So many things you can do with pasta to make it seem different .. like by adding different sauce red or white sauce to change it a bit.

Have you tried homemade chili or spahgetti? Those have always been good for me to use. What are your ideas for it? I would love to know.

Those to are great ideas. I have made a big pot of chili and used whatever meat is on sale at the time ground beef, ground chicken or ground turkey. We have left overs of chili the next night for dinner but use it for chili dogs. The kids love chili dogs. Spaghetti i make a double batch again using whatever ground meat is cheapest for the first night then second night I mix the left over spaghetti with some whipped raw eggs only 1 or 2 depending on how much left over spaghetti I have put it in a baking dish and bake for 30 minutes topped with shredded cheese. The kids love the spaghetti pie left over meal.

Minestroni is a wonderful idea for Fall and Winter. It`s a vegetable soup with some dry beans (cooked) and some spaguetti. Add some pesto and top with a bit of parmesan cheese or the like. I never buy canned beans. Instead, I buy dry beans, soak them overnight and boil them (no salt). You can freeze them if you don`t use them all. I have always some cooked frozen dry beans for my minestroni. Check for recipes online.

Hi creativedigital, making a menu plan quite challenging for me but i love it, usually i make a menu plan for the whole week to save money and time. I think you should try to make a plan for one to two weeks first so that you can able to see if its working or not. Nowadays i think most of us having difficulties in money and we need to spend our money wisely. Better to list down all you ingredients before going to the market or groceries and buy only the ingredients that you need, in this case you can able to save money and time. Lastly, try do search some recipes in the internet it will give you an idea of what kind of food that are affordable and can enjoy your whole family. Good luck

I always make a list before going to the store so I know what i will need for the week. If I don't make a list before i go to the grocery store I end up getting things I dont need which is a waste of money.

Pizza is a favorite in my family. I've been trying to save by making them ourselves instead of buying. I just stock up on flat bread, pizza sauce, and grated cheese. At least once a week we would make our own pizza with whatever toppings we have available at home. It's fun, easy, quick, and save us some money at the same time.
