New member of the family.

Amyra's foot - This is the only part of her I can show right now. I zoomed in so I could show something about her. Her little foot is so small, and her toes so tiny!

The picture I'm including is of the newest member of my family. Once you've read this, I'd love to hear about the newest member of your family (human or animal). A lot of you know my sister and brother-in-law are in the process of adopting a little girl they got from foster care about five or six months ago. Her name is Amyra (they plan to make that her middle name when the adoption is final, but they will continue to call her Amyra), and she is 14 months right now. She is an absolute sweetheart, but I can't legally show you a picture of her face until the adoption is final. But I wanted to share what I could, so that's where this picture comes in. She gets the hole in her heart (she was premature) fixed October 18th, and they think she'll only be in the hospital overnight. Everything looks good.

Dear Ambie thats such wonderful news for your sister and brother in law and sure for your parents and yourself as well. I will note down Oct 18th when the little one will be in hospital to get that hole in the heart fixed so I think of all of you that special day. No new members of the family over here. We have to wait at least 10 years till we can get two kitties as family addition.......

Does she have any other health problems besides her heart? Her ankle is so thin compared to her foot and leg.. is that just the camera angle? Does she walk yet or anything?

It's just the camera angle. She stands up, but isn't walking yet. She's on the exact pace she should be for how premature she was. She also talks. She still has the micky hole, which I briefly mentioned a long time ago when I first talked about her. Because she was premature and couldn't swallow at first, the surgeons put a hole in her stomach so they could feed her that way. She is now eating a lot of solid food because she can now swallow, so eventually they'll go in and get rid of the hole. Other than that, she's on perfect track. When they first got her she was on oxygen because her lungs were not yet fully developed having been premature. So I have some really cute pictures, and several of them show her with the oxygen. Then they said she didn't have to wear it during the day, only to sleep at night. Now, she doesn't have to wear the oxygen at all.

No, she has no skeletal or muscle problems. I can't really see anything from that photo that looks off, so I'm just assuming it's the camera angle causing you to see something. She's sitting on her rear end, her two legs splayed out like babies do. My dad actually saw her two weeks ago at her baby dedication ceremony. He made the trip down there to see it in person.

I'm glad she's progressing. Most of my kids walked early, but 2 of them didn't really walk until 14 months.. and they were all full term babies. I just wondered if she had skeletal or muscular problems based on how her ankle looked.. but I will take your word that it's just the camera angle. Can't wait to see a picture of her face, I'm sure she's precious. Has your dad gotten to see her recently?

It sounds like everything will be good for this young girl. SHe will have a family and people who will love her as their own. That is great! She has a cute little foot. A hole in her heart? That is sad. I hope that this doesn't make her life any different that anyone else's. Good luck to her!

They don't think it will. They thought it might heal on its own, but since it didn't they'll just do a fairly simple procedure to fix it. Everything looks good for her prognosis.

Awww this is such a sweet story. Hope and pray all goes well with the surgery and your sister and brother-in-law live happily ever after with their new, little girl. I am an adult, adopted child and it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I had a second chance. Our newest member is a grandbaby who is now 6 months old. She's a little doll and I enjoy being with her and just being a grandma.

How exciting! How long does the adoption process take? I imagine its very lengthy. Is she with them now, or does she have to wait until it is final?

Those holes in the heart don't close until right before a normal term, and sometimes don't even then. Its pretty normal for premies to have them. So I'm guessing the parents have already terminated their rights and now its just the waiting period before they can finalize the adoption. That's so exciting! Only new addition was the blind roommate in January and losing the other one in July.

They could never find the dad, and the mom's rights were already terminated, yes.

It is really lovely that your sister and brother-in-law are in the process of adopting a little girl called Amyra. It is superb they are currently fostering the 14 month of little girl. She sounds delightful and good luck to her in the heart operation. It was a shame she was born prematurely. My daughter is the youngest in my family and her name is Amber. She is currently 3 and a half years old. She is tall for her age so looks older than that.

Well, my name is Amber and I was pretty tall too. I was born 24 inches. Maybe she'll end up being a supermodel. I'm sure she has a better chance of that than I did!

That's really remarkable of your sister and brother in law to adopt a child not alone, a child outside of their own race. Good for them! I wish them the best of luck and hope they take lots and lots of pictures as she grows up because they're memories worth keeping!

They didn't think they'd get a baby at all since they went through foster care. Babies are snatched up. They did know it would most likely be a non white child, and of course they didn't care. How blessed we were to get little Amyra! We think some of her health problems might have scared off people from wanting to adopt her.

How awesome! We have two children, we travel a lot so getting a dog probably won't happen for a long time. My daughter has a soft heart for animals so I took her to the animal shelter and I promise that she petted every dog and wished she could take them all home. We've never legally adopted a child but we sponsor one through World Vision. She's been with us for six years and in the near future we plan to visit her and see how she's grown.

Hello Ambie. I think it is wonderful that your sister and brother-in-law are adopting the little girl especially since she has some health problems. Our newest addition isn't nearly as exciting as yours is. My daughter was at the pet store getting cat and dog food and as always stopped to play with the birds. She fell in love with a conure that was being very friendly. She comes home get her husband and daughter and off they go to see the bird. it comes home with daughter promising to clean the cage every week and husband seeming to like the bird. Well the bird has been in residence for over a couple of months. Daughter is tired of cleaning the cage and the bird and husband don't get along. The bird named Cosmos like three of us very much. But he really doesn't like husband. The husband has been wanting a big bird for some time I guess. Every time husband tries to get the bird onto his finger bird bites same with two other daughters. The other day daughter was standing next to husband with Cosmos on her shoulder when husband steps next to her close enough that Cosmos can run up his arm which he does. Cosmos get to his neck and takes small nibble then goes for his ear and bites hard enough to draw blood. I and my daughter and one granddaughter can get him out of the cage and we do fine. he like to play in our hair or nibble on ears and neck. He likes to have his head od beak rubbed and he lets hou know when its not enough. He is fun to play with and watch. He likes to snuggle around the face too. Though we have fun with our bird it's not the same as what your sister and brother-in-law are doing. .

Dear Ambie, Congratulations to your sister and brother in law. I am happy for your family. That is wonderful news! The newest member of my family is my sister's second child, my adorable eight month old nephew Timothy. I just love when my sister's family comes home to visit. It is wonderful to see Timothy. He is at the stage where he is using objects to pull himself up to a standing position. He has not taken his first steps yet.

A pic of her foot is fine with me too :-D I hope everything will turn out fine plus she will have a great life. At this moment we don't know if we want to adopt anymore. Since we visited an orphan house in Hungary we are shocked about the children being over there (plus they want to leave the country and who will be probably not get very old). So our newest member of the family for now is called: Wunyo. She is a black german sheppard dog born in Hungary. The newest member of the family before her is a black snake called: Kevin. My daughter still hopes for a baby girl.
