It was the college traditional day and all friends decided to wear a Sari, an Indian attire. I never wore it until then. I had worn a sari just for a picture or two at home but never ventured with it outside. Hence, I said no to it. All friends tried a lot to convince me but in vain.
That evening, the special person in my life..was on phone. I casually mentioned about the traditional day and the attire. He asked if it was too tough and wanted to know if I could wear a sari as he never saw me in one. I was always in jeans or the salwar kameez but never a sari.
I brushed him off too saying that it was too tough to walk around draped in a 5.5 meters of cloth! I argued that it was a tough thing to wear and take the subway, climb a flight of stairs and go to college. It was too much of an ordeal.
He said he wanted to see me in one but didn't pursue it further. He said it was my call and that it was indeed tough on the subway and all, especially as it was the first time.Well, I contemplated the whole night and voila! The next day, I asked mom to drape in the sari. She was a bit puzzled but gladly did so.
I called one of my college friends (my best buddy) and told her to take the same train that I would take. I met her in the train and she said I was looking cute. It was scary to walk and carry around the 5.5 meter sari! For the first time, I actually put some make up, jewelry and bangles! We went to college, enjoyed the traditional day fest and planned for a movie in few hours. Meanwhile, I called him and asked if he would join us for the movie. He said yes. So, it was decided that we would meet the friends at the theater.
There was a coffee shop near his office. I went there to see him and from there we were to go for the movie. He was at the coffee table, clueless. Had ordered coffee and was waiting for me. I and my best friend went together..and he was so surprised. He couldn't take his eyes off me. Went on to repeatedly tell me how good I looked. Never let go of my hand the whole time..from coffee shop to the movies and even came to drop me at the subway..
Well..it is a nostalgic memory. Now, I learned how to drape a sari on my own. Every time I wear a sari, I think of that day. He's not with me now..but yes, we are in touch..and I tell him how much I miss him as each day passes by.
