Weather and Mood

It is gloomy today because the sun doesn't shine. A little shower from the sky welcomes the day and now I feel quite lazy and down. Do you think the weather can really affect people's mood?

I am not a believer of such but I notice that I am irritable not because ofthe weather but because of the delay it brings to the days work. I may say also the trouble like the flood, the heat wave or too strong winds. It's nature so we can't complete with it. It's a sunny day here in my city!

I dont know about others, but for me the weather does affect me, my illness and hence my mood. I am suffering from Rheumatoid Arthritis and Ulcerative Colitis. So the rains and winters play a big role in mt health. Obviously when you are in pain, you cannot be in the best of your moods.

Yeah, I agree. There are various explanations as to why someone might experience mood swings in regards with the weather. I had read in some research that weather had significant effects on the mood, example of this are humidity, temperature, and hours of sunshine which have the greatest effect on mood, while increasing level of humidity lowered scores on concentration and increases sleepiness.

Yes, the weather can affect our mood, but this can be overcome. Do something that especially interests you, preferably something where you interact with other people.

Yeah, it is like doing some outdoor activities during sunny days, or indoor for humid days. It is well after how you reacted and think about the mood changes associated with weather effects that matters at all.:)

The weather can and does affect a person's mood. Especially this time of year when the days are getting shorter and there is less sunlight as well. I love thunderstorms so when it rains this time of year it affects my mood more than when it rains during the summer months. In fact, sometimes during the summer when there are a lot of sunny days in a row and no rain it can also have a negative affect on my mood.

It is really indeed affects people's mood. They had been studies shown and research done in early 90's in relating its correlation on each other. In effect, they had come up also with different methods and treatments for its effect. I don't know exactly what were the treatment, but I guess it is also relating to the controlled environment.

Yes, it does affect mood. I am the opposite of most people. In the summer I am tired and don't want to do anything. I don't like the sun and prefer to stay up all night and sleep all day. My eyes are very light sensitive. I like the rainy, gray days. That kind of weather puts me in a good mood. I prefer fall and winter to summer. I like the short daylight hours of winter and the cold rather than the heat. When it's hot I get grouchy and don't want to do anything, even though I have air conditioning and I stay out of the heat and sun. When winter comes I feel alive again and happier.

Yes weather affects mood , that when it is too hot , we easily flares up. We are bit aggressive and arrogant , i know why is it like this , maybe due to the temperature. And when it is gloomy , we tend to be sentimental and emotional. Memories flashbacks and just found our eyes tearing.

I had heard that serotonin, which is one of chemical in our brain that regulates our moods, increses during bright light. That's explains probably the aggressiveness and high moods during sunny days.:)

Oh definitely weather affects our mood. Just look at SAD disorder (seasonal affective disorder). I mean they have treatments for that kind of thing, so you know a lot of people must deal with it. It would be horrible to feel that way all the way through winter.

Definitely. I heard that there are some treatments are done for SAD. The most common and safest way to deal with it was home remedies that can help relieve some of it's anxiety effects.

Hi marsfire, The weather can definitely affect our moods, but I think we can overcome it with gratitude. When the rain gets you down, think of how necessary it is and of all the good it does. Give thanks for the rain as well as for the sunshine, for the darkness as well as the light. Everything has it's purpose. I'm not saying that it will happen immediately, but eventually the weather won't have the same effect on your mood. I've had such problems myself - and I'm still working on them. Blessings.

Perhaps it is indeed in the mind setting. Farmers for example, they are thankful and active during rainy seasons for their crops. Some people use the sunny weather for their outdoor activities:)

I've heard and read a lot of discussions attesting that the weather does indeed affect the moods of people. Like people get sad when it's rainy, or perky when it's summertime. I'm not sure though of the scientific explanation on such, but I myself sometimes have changes in moods during changes in weather. Laziness also sets in when it's dark and rainy. During those times, I just like to stay in bed and watch TV.

I also heard that exposing yourself to sunlight during sunny days give you positive output on mood plus add up with getting the vitamin D from short term exposure from the sunlight.

Hi, Weather do affects the mood for those who are susceptible to it. I have a co-worker who complains of headache and general fatigue when the sky is overcast. Strangely, same complaint also goes during very hot weather. I used to feel down if I can't see the sun for a day. Nowadays, I rejoice when the sun is out, I like it when the weather is cool and dry. Make me feel like roaming around without the inconvenience of the hot weather.

Some people think that they might just woke up at the wrong side of the bed, but in fact there are lot of factors affecting their mood. One of this is the weather. The most well known way of which the weather affects our mood is known as SAD , abbreviated terms of Seasonal Affective Disorder. Have anyone heard about it?

Yes weather really can affect our mood, a little research confirms that weather may have little effect on our moods. Keller and his colleagues (2005) examined 605 participants responses n three separate studies to examine the connection between mood states, a person’s thinking and the weather. They found that: Pleasant weather (higher temperatureor barometric pressure) was related to higher mood, better memory, and ‘‘broadened’’ cognitive style during the spring as time spent outside increased. The same relationships between mood and weather were not observed during other times of year, and indeed hotter weather was associated with lower mood in the summer. the researchers did ind that the weather can impact our moods negatively. And while hat effect in the present study was small, it confirms the same effect found in a multitude of other studies. So, yes, weather does appear to impact our moods.

Nice to know. I think I heard about that study sometime and they had touch some broadened topics in regard with the effect of the weather on the specific areas in our body, such as hormones, adrenaline and the likes.

Hi, I think our mood can be affected by many things, including the weather. Most people feel that rainy days make them feel lazy and sleepy and sunny days make them energetic. But I am different. Cloudy days make me cool and enegetic, as for the sunny days, the sun is too shiny to open my eyes, so I feel quite sleepy. Haha!
