I decided to sell ice at home since i only work part time and spend most of my time inside the house... i just want to ask 3 php is a good and fair price to sell ice... i asked my aunt last week and she said that she sells ice at that price and people actually buy it... when i was young we used to buy at 1 php... so it is quite a shock to learn that ice is not 3 times as high... Do i have to sell at 2 php, or 2.50... or just stick with the 3 php... please help me out...

If you're using tap water for your ice, I guess 3 php is a fair price. I'm not sure though if that would give you enough profit what with the cost of electricity, water, and even the price of the plastic ice bag you would use. If you're going to use purified water, then I think you should increase your selling price a little.

I would definitely use tap water since purified water will increase my production cost... then if that is the case i might increase my price to 5 php or 6 php... so better just stick to tap water... I asked my aunt if her electricity bill increased dramatically when she started selling ice... and she said that it was okay... so the month of October is my trial period...

Your electricity bill wouldn't increase if you're not going to use a separate freezer for your ice-selling business. Just avoid cramming your freezer too much. This would make the motor work harder, and thus would consume more electricity. Well, that's what my friend told me

Well, you need to sell depending on how much people need in that area. If you have rival that sell P3 you need to sell it also the price of P3. Because if you go beyond that...I don't think if someone will be buy your Ice...?

I actually scanned my area... and my biggest rivals are seven eleven and a small grocery store... but they sell by the bulk... so those who need only a small piece of ice wouldn't buy from them... i just need to market my product... or inform more people that i am selling ice... Thanks for the response...

Isn't better to look for another product to sell so that you can generate income not only seasonal but continuously profiting the business.

hi aseretdd. how have you been? hope you are doing fine. been a while since i last saw you post. anyway, i think Php 3.00 is the fair market price of ice nowadays. it'll be more expensive if purified water is used. i would think that early on, you can start selling your ice at Php 2.00 or even Php 2.50 just so you have a lower price among other ice-sellers in your area and neighbors will be more inclined to purchase from you. i'm sure you will still recover your initial investment but at a longer time. you can then move your price to Php 3.00 next year. at least by then, you would have build up a customer base who will still be buying ice from you even at a higher cost. hope this helps tere!!! cheers and happy mylotting!!!

That is a great idea... start with 2 php then gradually increase the price... i just have to change my sign because i already put there the 3 php price... i don't think i would use purified water... that will be too expensive... might have to sell ice for 5 php if i use that... Thanks for the response...

Selling ice is a good business. I used to do that when I was back home. Well, I can't help you with the price thing since I had been away for 6 year snow. Hopefully whatever you have decided is fair for every one.

I think, it will depend on the water that you will be using and the selling price of your competitors. Just make sure that the amount would be competitive enough and not high. Customers are always to buy the cheapest one. Take it into consideration.

Hi we are the same, my family sells Ice too. Since we are here residing along the coast Ice is so important as there are more fishermen here. They need Ice for their fishes. Last 2010 we started to sell ice, we bought an Up-Right freezer to start. At first we sol the ice at 2.50 then after we realized we had a lot of .50 cents in the box then we decided to sold it 3.00 peso. until now we are selling it. Im glad you started a business like this since weather is getting hot.

you're welcome, if you reside in a populous area then try make more ice then save it so you can buy an up-right freezer. Its is very convenient as we can make 100 ice for 24 hours. last year we also sell ice creams.

Your price is fair, I can say. I guess that is the prevailing price for ice in small stores nowadays. It's also good income on the side and you don't need to really invest a lot since all of the materials you need are at hand.

Well, i agree... so far i only spent around 19 php for a 100 pc ice plastic... but then... i haven't yet sold any ice so far... i guess my neighbors doesn't know yet that i am selling ice... despite the colorful sign on our gate... Hope it will pick up soon... Thanks for the response...

Well I guess it would depend on what the price is in your location. I am pretty sure there are others who are selling the same thing and you can start doing research then you can adjust the price if you think you need to let others know you have ice for sale. Or you might just ride on the trend in your area sell them same as what they are selling.

I am actually the only one selling ice for 3 pesos... the seven eleven store near us is much expensive... even the ice at the nearest grocery store... but my main problem is the marketing... or informing people that i am selling ice... 1 month into the business... i only sold 6 ice... hope it will pick up this month...

Stick to the P3.00 because the cost of electricity is much higher now compared years ago. Your sales will double this summer. Good luck to your sideline.

I guess it comes down to supply and demand. If people want it or need it, they will pay any price. If you are trying to build a customer base then I would keep a fair price displayed and possibly give discounts to repeat customers. To answer your question, 2 php (2.50), that price is easy to remember and you can sell two bags for 5.00.

I agree... if people want and need ice... they will be willing to pay at any price... but i don't want to take advantage of that... so 3 php is the the fairest running price nowadays... and i might take you advise on giving discounts to repeat customers... Thanks for the response...

I bought 3 pesos of ice here and i rather buy one than use refrigerator to save electricity since im just alone and i normally buy food outside so i only use my ref for cold water and to think of the high electric bills, i just decided to go for buying ice. My mother sell 2 pesos in our province and she can manage to save for their electric bills every month.

Well I live in a not so expensive province and ice here cost 2 pesos or 2.50. But I guess 3 pesos is a fair price in your locality. Specially if you are in a big city.

My aunt also sells ice for 3 php... so i am just following her advice... and others in my area are also selling at the same price... except for the grocery and seven eleven stores... Thanks for the response...

Actually, it depends whether people will be buying it at that price. Experiment with different prices, like you could sell it for 3 php and if you notice poor sales, you could lower it to something like 2.5 or 2 or even 1 php depending on the demand. Since, I think if there would be a huge demand, you could still profit even by selling them for 1 php each.

Thanks for the response...

I think 3php is the standard amount of ice sold in household even in stores. Even here in our place, ice are sold for the same price.

Haven't seen you in a long time. I don't know anything about selling ice except that here the cheapest price for a bag from the grocery store is 99 cents and some stores charge 2 or 3 times that much. I suppose what people would pay sort of depends on how hot the weather is.

you've made a great decision. nowadays, we really have to do some things to have an additional income. I am already working in a call center and I don't find my salary enough to cover all my expenses and living. that is ob.why i am having mylot and other sites as my part time job. I am glad that i found a new site that is really giving a good amount to me. just in 3 days, i earned 500 pesos. not bad right? anyway, going back to your concern, 3 pesos is a reasonable price. electric bill nowadays is really not a joke so we have to make use of our resources so we could make an extra income just like our refregirator. you can also follow others advice that you can add ice candy. just like you are hitting two birds in one shot. goodluck in your business. congratulations in advance. that will be a big help to pay your electric bills.

I agree with you... full time jobs are not enough to make ends meet... and right now.. i can only have a part time job and others that wouldn't require me to work away from home... so since i stay at home 5 days a week... selling ice is like something that would earn me some money though very little... Thanks for the response...
