I love to read but my friend that I live with likes to watch movies.
Most evenings I like to go to bed with a book but he likes to watch a movie in bed.
Our solution is that I stick earplugs in my ears while I read and he lays beside me with the remote..happy as a lark watching the movie.
Would this work for you?
How do you manage living with someone different then yourself?
Have a great day http://www.mylot.com/images/emotes/hugs.gif

It can be hard to share a room with anybody, especially if you didn't know them before you moved into the room with them, but the most important thing that you have to do is to make sure that you have a decent set of rules that you would both stick to. For example you need to have a time that you would both be going to bed as this would help you to stop annoying each other. If he likes to watch movies then he should be using headphones so that you cannot hear him, I think that would be a lot more fair than him being able to watch what he wants to.

Hi raydene,
I always use earplugs before I go to sleep, because my partner is very different from me. Now that sounds a bit weird, lol. He goes to bed early, while I fight insomnia and gets up really early even if he doesn´t have to. I don´t.
He lies his head on the pillow and is asleep within a minute and I always read (as you) until I fall asleep.
I use the earplugs so he doesn´t wake me up when he gets up at 5 am. Works fine for me.
We don´t have a television in our bedroom, it´s in the living room and I put earplugs in if he wants to watch s.th. that doesn´t interest me and I want to read.
Kind regards
Dana

When my husband wants to watch something totally annoying on tv, I run up the street to Second Cup and have a cup of coffee. ;)

Hey! Long time no see!
Actually, since I sleep alone (unless you count the cats) its not an issue. I seldom have the TV on while the roomie can work on the computer with it going. The other roommate is totally blind so she either listens to an audio book or the TV, I would rather play silly games on the computer, but just bought some books and have devoured two of the four already.
That's why I've not been as much here this week, I've been READING!
