Well don't go spending lots of money from a phone company. You could get free phones from StraightTalk from Walmart. They have a plan that costs only 45 a month with unlimited access for everything. Look into something like that.

if you are really a techie girl you might try to buy an android phones which is very good in social media. It's a good choice to have android phones since there are a lot of apps in the market. so since you are looking for phones that is for emergencies, try a nokia mid-range phones. nokia has these type of phones and they are cheap. it has simple apps like camera, fm, micro sd, some has dual sim card support, colored but no gprs. i think these might fit you.

well android is a software or firmware for cellphones. nowadays most touch screen phones are powered by android like samsung, htc, sony, motorola, LG and other phone brands out there except for Nokia and apple. You know android is basically much cheaper than iOs which I think is just the same as the later, it's powerful, user friendly, fast and there are a lot of android apps available in the internet.

youd think they would want to help, but not here in Mexico. They just want as much money as they can get from you.

I have buy 6 months ago Huawei and its a good phone for not so much money. I think its chinese brand. But it is quality phone. Before I have always Ericson and than Sony Ericson, but now its only Sony and its quite expensive. You should take a look if you have Huawei phones in your country.

By the way you can purchase simple cell phone for emergency purpose and several out there. But for example if you pay money for such simple cell phone, why not buy one that is available at the same price with more features. And by the way if you buy any SIM card then it already comes with important emergency numbers (except your personal emergency). The benefit of buying such feature-rich cell phone is that there are situations in which you will be required such features in future. At that time, you will not require to pay money separately. My opinion is buy that one which serves both of your purposes present and futures. There is no more difference you just need to pay little extra money.

In our country, prepaid SIM cards are very popular and most subscribers are using this option over postpaid, and it is common for an individual to have more than one number/network, so Dual-SIM phones are very in demand here. Mostly, models from Samsung and Nokia are the ones available with this feature so it is the most common option, given that they are also not very expensive. I don't know about your place though, but if it's the same there, then maybe you should find and buy one of those Samsung or Nokia dual-Sim phones.
