My Nose Is Bleeding

This is what we (me and my friends) would usually say if we are already running out of English words in the middle of a conversation or a discussion that requires us to speak in fluent English. And this is what happening to me right now. There are so many ideas yet there are times that we can not just find the right word. Whew! It's really hard to earn money! he he . Well anyway, perhaps I need to take some rest because it's getting late already and still needs to work tomorrow. Good night every one!

Hi , so am I, everytime I spend my time here on mylot I'm having a nose bleed , but I'm enjoying it. This the best place to keep learning. It's fun and encouraging to have a discussion with opinionated people, earning is just a bonus. Goodnight :)

I'm not surprised to find that you have difficulty with English, though I must say the above paragraphs are very good. The English language has very many quirks and foibles designed to trip the unwary. I can think of a gret many British Born people who still have trouble with basic grammer, let alone more complicated language theories. This is a great place to get comments back on how good your english is, but try to read 'proper' English, i'd say novels are better than news papers, they always have loads of silly mistakes in them. I really like the escape phrase you have come up with I wish we'd had something similar during French lessons at school.

I really find it hard sometimes to translate phrases and sentences especially if those are no direct translation. We have a lot of those words actually. yah, this is a common saying here in our place. Well, it is because English is not our mother tongue and we are not used to it. It's good when we have English speaking friends who are always around, then that will help us improve our communication skills.

Oh, so he is your boss Anyway, you will get used to it. When I start working in a call center, my tongue get tangled most of the times, but after a week- I was so surprised with the improvement. Don't be nervous, just feel relax and you will find it much comfortable to talk with foreigners.

Oh no, my boss is a pure Filipino, it's just that he always speaks in English. We always have to speak in that language too especially if we are presenting our reports. Have a nice day!

There are so may reason for bleeding in the nose. One of them it may be hurt in an accident. Another important reason is that high blood pressure or hypertension.

Haha! I feel you! Me and my friend were actually saying the same word if we're running out of English in a conversation which requires fluent English. Or even when we are just talking our foreign schoolmates. And we just keep joking by saying "WHEW! NOSE BLEED!" :)

that kind of idiomatic expression is being expressed when my and my classmates being asked of some questions that required hard answers we do not know how to begin answering with or how to answer that kind of question. it maybe in written or verbal tests to us. we used to joke and lift our heads up acting that we are having our nose bleeding. this one indicated that we do not know the answer or like what you stated that find hardships in putting appropriate words to form a sentence as you express your thought.. thanks :)

It just needs a constant practice so we will not experience that 'nose bleed '. Constant correct practice is much desirable though jungle English is but okay , little by little one will learn and develop.

definitely! some words, phrases and sentences in our language or dialect just cannot be translated because it doesn't mean the same or it loses its punch. that's why sometimes it takes me several minutes to finish a response because i keep editing and revising it. that's right, sleep and let your subconscious work on it. the words will come to you tomorrow.

In school, we always say that. Especially if there's a foreign student in a class and we're asked to speak in English so the new student can understand what we're saying, some of my classmate will go like: "Whew - nosebleed!" Some of them will try their hardest to speak in English even though there are mistakes, but you can still understand it. But they won't start speaking in English without saying "nosebleed" first.

I can relate to you. It's funny at times that we are in the middle of converastion feeling so confident delivering ourselves and then at one point we run out of what to say. That's happening. I talked to different people everyday and I just can't avoid getting run out of words when I am trying tom explain something which is so hard for them to understand. I don't know if the way I explain it is not so good or they are just unable to grasp the points the points im trying to convey right away. But learning is a continuous process. keep on practising you'll get used to it.

Hi eiram! That is a very good suggestion. I remember one time I've seen my daughter talking to her phone as if she was talking to a foreigner. When I asked to whom she was talking to she told me she was talking to no one, she is just practicing her English. lol Thank you for sharing!

It is understandble since English is just our second language. you should be proud because you can express yourself in English with the correct grammar. it is just so happen that take sometime to compose it.lol.mylot has help me a lot in writing or expressing myself. before when I was new here, my response were just like one to two sentences.but now, i can write like around two to three paragraphs and I'm really happy and proud of it. i saw some of your posts and you write so well in English. your just being humble, right\? I am not working tomorrow since it is holiday in U.S. but i will be very busy for the souvenirs. I will out for Divisoria tomorrow.

Hi rberon! I was not able to participate in the discussion yesterday because of our conference at the office. I was able to open the site this morning and I was so glad that this discussion caught the attention of many. It was just that I was already tired the previous day so I think to start the discussion. Because we are not using English as medium of speech in our house, most often, I would have to organize my thoughts in our own dialect, then I will have to translate. Most of the time even simple words, I could no longer find the translation because of confusion due to a lot of things that I am thinking. Then I would be calling, Kuya(my eldest son)! What is the English of this and that? Sometimes my daughter would tell me, oh my! just a simple thing you we're not able to translate. Would you like me to translate it for you in Japanese of Korean? So we were all laughing because of this. Oh well, that's part of life. I just have to laugh at it most of the time. Thank you for sharing!

You are right that no easy job here and you have to pay off if really wants to achieve something and earn here.So i made a plan for myself and hope it will come true and make my life easier and more happier.This is how i think about this,never try to give yourself too much pressure.

That's really funny. You use 'my nose is bleeding' when you can't think of anything to say. I say Frogs Legs when I am frustrated and want to cuss.

Wow that is a new thing, "Frogs Legs". I am happy to know other things from our friends in here. Yes, we use that statement because English is not our primary language. But most of us can actually speak English. We just use it as a joke when we have to think deeply especially when we have to speak in English. Thank you for sharing!

Hi vidyaprakash! This thing usually happens to us who are not using the English language as primary language. Even though there are times that I would want to think in English directly, but it seems that I can still think better on our dialect then will have to proceed with the translation. That is why this is a common joke when we have to think too much, 'Nose Bleed'. Thank you for sharing!

Hi aj! I actually never expected that this discussion will gain responses as I just thought of it before I finally went to bed last Sunday. I was not able to open the site yesterday because I was so busy and when I open the site this morning, wow!
