Thanks for this help. Why do you consider it easy to cook?

Sounds like something that is hard to cook because it's chicken ala king. For me, I might overcook the chicken.

You can always cook some bacon and then in a little of the bacon grease cook some onion and crumble the bacon. Then you can mix the bacon & onion with the rice. Any kind of vegetables go good with this. And it's pretty easy to make. Or you can always fry hamburg all broken up and add peppers & onions, spices and a can of tomatoes. This goes good mixed with rice or pasta. You can go here www.squidoo.com/studentfood and find some easy recipes. Have fun cooking and DON"T BURN YOURSELF!

Thank you. Bacon is expensive but I'll try what you have suggested. It sounds delicious when you say it. Frying bacon is easy but I am still a newbie at cooking.

I love rice. It goes with everything. And I love bacon too. It's not very expensive where I live. You can go to www.grownupgeek.com and look up cooking for beginners. I think they may have some recipes you might like. Also there are cooking videos on youtube. You should come back and let us know how you manage and what you cooked. I know I'd be interested to find out.

That should be easy. I don't know what sort of foods you like, but it's always good to start with what doesn't need to be cooked. You can buy all sorts of different breads - pita, wraps, whole wheat, nine-grain, high fiber, bagels, etc., and then a variety of lunch meats and/or cheeses, plus lettuce, onion, tomato to make different types of sandwiches or wraps, or even subs.
For cooking, burgers are quite easy to begin with, or grilled cheese, or any grilled meat and cheese sandwiches. You could also get those boxes of thinly sliced steaks to make your own steak subs.
Another idea is thin sliced steak, seared in a cast iron skillet, with "au jus" gravy (just add water to the meat and pan once the meat is seared), over rye bread - with some fried onions in there. Delicious.
Salads - easy enough. Whatever cold raw veggies you like. You can add cooked bacon, chicken, or any meat, or shrimp. Toss with oil and vinegar. Add some croutons and sunflower seeds.
It's easy to bake a chicken, too. The internet can tell you how long to bake per pound. Once you bake a chicken, you can have hot chicken, cold sandwiches with the leftovers, or chicken salad. Make some gravy with the drippings.
If you have a microwave, it's easy to clean and "bake" and baking potato. Once baked, add butter, sour cream, bacon bits - and voila! Instant hot lunch.

Choose baking - russet potatoes. Wash them off, put in the microwave for 4-6 minutes until they are soft.
Thin sliced steak - just put in a frying pan with some butter so they don't stick to the pan, turn on the heat about medium, and cook until brown on each side. You can add a bit of water in the pan for pan gravy. When cooking, add whatever seasonings you like - salt, pepper, garlic powder.
I don't know where you live, but in the states you can buy boxes of ready to cook burgers; directions are on the box for cooking.

That's nice. Thank you for sharing. Are there any instant burgers in which all you have to do is heat it in a microwave or oven?
Yes, thin sliced steak. How do I cook it?
I am not a salad person but I guess I'll try buying lettuce, cabbage and others.
If you would bake a chicken, you need to have a big baking oven? For me, this is hard to prepare. hehehehe
I have a microwave at home and I'll try baking potatoes. It sounds delicious. But how do I choose my potatoes? How do I pick them?

Hi! there are a lot of websites that you can check out for simple recipes. I in fact do search new menus on the net. I print most of the recipes. You can really save money and eat healthier if you will cook your own food. :D

Yeah. It's already a necessity to learn how to cook. I will eventually learn to cook.

You can eat potato wedges by just cutting potatoes into wedges and baking them in the oven. Oatmeal is easy to fix by boiling and just add some milk and brown sugar or honey. Very good for breakfast. Mixing some cut up vegetables together with some water and cooking them until tender. Very healthy.

Carrots are delicious. Brocolli is very nutritious. Celery is good raw and spinach is good too for salads. Don't rule out sprouts. They are nutritious and tasty. Here is a link of top ten vegetables:

Thanks for the response. I can just cook the veggies in the steamer. But how can I pick the veggies? What are good vegetables that are delicious when eaten raw?

A lot of people have started to depend on more fast foods these days, so I think that it is a really good thing that you have started to think about the ways that you cook recipes healthily. One of the things that I have found is very easy to cook are pasta dishes. The good thing about these is that the only you need to do is boil the pasta and heat the sauce. You can easily stir in as many chopped vegetables as you like, and this means that it is a healthy dish. The whole thing takes no longer than 30 minutes to wait, and you would probably be waiting longer than that if you got a take out.

Thanks for the advice. Then I'll just a pack of pasta and heat it for about as much time as indicated in the instructions. Then I'll just heat the can of tomato sauce for about 10 minutes. Will that be enough?

If you depend on fastfood for all your meals every time you are hungry, then you need to learn how to cook at home, there is no argument on that. If you stomach doesn't tell your brain you are craving for food three time a day, then it is not necessary for you to have three meals every day.

True, but you can share ideas that are not recipe-specific - I think I did that.

MyLot does not allow the posting of recipes as a topic but if there is something to discuss then there is usally not a problem (though this topic could have been answered by using the search I imagine).

Ramen noodles or spaghetti - set 'enough' water to boil, throw in the noodles, & wait the right amount of time.
Microwave everything else.

Maybe the microwave radiation is harmful (you should Search-the-Web it to be sure). If you really think it is, just don't hang out near the microwave while it's running; and let the food sit a few minutes before you dive in after it

Thanks for the advice. Doing too much microwave is harmful. Is it hazardous because of the radiation?

Oh, this time, its tuna again but with calamansi, mix it with chopped pechay baguio, sliced tomatoes and onions, that's it, just mix them. And eat with rice. It's from my nutrition professor. We always eat that at home if we're in a hurry.
If you're on cooking. Omelettes are so easy.
And I also cook "adobong hotdog", that's what my father call it. Just saute the hotdog, put some ketchup and soy sauce.

Wow. Thanks for sharing. For the tuna, do I need to heat or cook it?
I just started to learn to cook so I think I can't make the best omelettes.
I'll also keep in mind the adobong hotdog. It sounds easy to cook. Thanks again.

Wow. How do you make avocado sandwiches? Egg sandwiches?
Cereal with soy milk doesn't make me full. I should eat rice with meat or fish.

To me the easiest recipe is when you can throw all the ingredients in one pot and the meal cook itself. Just invest in a crock pot or slow cooker and find a site that has slow cooker recipes. Put it on when you leave for work. When you come home, dinner is done. If you make enough you can enjoy leftovers.
