We closed at 5 pm, takes us until 530pm to close. We have to do the computer work, paper work, count the money then shut everything down. It's a holiday today and yes I have my thanksgiving dinner tonight (not in a hurry but other are). We get this almost every night people coming in 5, 2, even when we close. They take their time walking around the store, one lady was a half hour after we closed then we had to do the 30 minutes closing. I just find this rude, even one lady tonight dragging on and on, then goes oh your closing then walks around the store even more.

Closing time here is closing time..bigger stores have PA announcements 30 minutes and counting down before the doors are closed, after that, they're only letting people out,not in...smaller shops close the doors and encourage you to finish shopping..you don't get to linger!

In Some places you'll find the assistants becoming very helpful at this time, offering to help you find what you're looking for to get you served and out as fast as possible!

I hope you lock the doors at closing time so you can do the work you have to do without people around. I would announce that the store is closing in 5 minutes or however minutes before you have to lock the doors and tell them to finish up before you close.
I would think it was rude too if I were you, but from the customer's end.. they probably are just thinking about getting their stuff and not that it's rude. But it is!!! I never go to a store when it is closing time for them. They have a sign closed in their door or they shut the main lights off and you know it's closed.

I agree I never go in when they are just closing, we even told the lady we were closing. We had al the lights off, and door locked while she was standing carrynig on and wanting a calculator. Now there are some customers who fly in and out knowing what they want, but those who browse, taking their time.

I totally agree with you when you say that those customers are being rude. Especially when they see that you are closing and yet they still take their time. I go through this all the time when I am closing down the fitting room at our store. It closes at 10 and I let people know that they have 10 minutes to try on clothes and then its closed. I have people going into the fitting room with about 15 clothes and they don't hurry they take their time and they tell their friends to go grab something else. Then I'm like just to let you know you have 5 mins and then I need to close. I had one customer that took like a whole hour after the fitting room closed before they were done. I kept telling them the amount of time they had left. What I hate is I can't just kick them out after 10 mins That would be perfect. Sorry you're not done trying on clothes oh well. . But anyway, customers do this too when on Christmas Eve and we make the announcement the store is now closing and they still have those customers who want to linger around. I hate that. Cause we too have to go home to our families. Yet they don't care. Customers can be rude.

It never ceases to amaze me how rude that people are at times. I will admit that there have been times that I have walked into a store within just a few minutes of their closing time. However, whenever I do something like this, I know exactly what I need to grab at the store and I know exactly where the thing that I need is located in the store. As far as browsing after closing time, that is something that I could never see myself doing. It is very inconsiderate to the people that work at the store who are waiting to be able to go home.

Wow that is so inconsiderate! In here, when its already closing, the shop guard or whoever is assigned at the front door does not let anybody in anymore. Sometimes they will raise a fit whenever they're refused entry but of course its policy. So no matter how irate they may be, they just have to return the next day. Its also part of the safety procedure, when the books and actual cash is out for balancing.

If you wanted your company to gain profit then this is the price that you have to pay. Profit is where the company gets money for your salary. You have to remember that there are a lot of stores that sells almost the same items as you. The only difference is the trademarks and price. Competition nowadays are very fierce so you have to go the extra mile if you want to stay ahead. Should your company exceed its expectation when it comes to profit, I'm sure that all employees will also benefit from this. Sadly, this is a call of duty you cannot ran away from. If you don't like the way this is being handled then you better look for another job.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving to you.
I hope your store is cloded today. If not so sad. Yes, I find it extremely rude when people enter a store at closing time. Myself I don't do that unless it is an emergency and then I leave as quickly as possible. I am aware that the people who work in a store cannot just shut the door and leave. There are many things to be done before that happens. I hope you do get paid for the extra half hour or more to balance the cash, file the sales tapes, save the computer files, shut down properly, put the phone on answering and set the alarm. I wish people would be more considerate.

you should talk to your boss to ask if you can tell her you are closing and she must get what she is looking for or leave.

It is extremely rude! I used to work at a restaurant as a server that closed at 2:30 pm. There was a huge sign on the door that said "Open 7:30-2:30 daily" and that was the only thing on the door. You couldn't miss it. We wouldn't have anyone after 2:00 and then between 2:20 and 2:30 everyday people would come in to eat. They would know that we were closed (its pretty obvious when they are the only ones there and the employees are standing around staring waiting on you to leave) and sometimes it would be people on business meetings that would talk and talk and talk and take forever to eat. Sometimes we wouldn't get out of there until almost 4:00. I used to leave irritated every single day and wished that we could tell them when they came in "We close in 10 minutes, I've been here since 7 this morning, so you need to hurry up"...some people just don't care though.

That is inconsiderate. When I go to a store and I see that it is about to close I don't come in anymore.I just come the next day if it is within walking distance from our house. Unless, if there are more than 5 customers inside the store. Salespeople get tired at the end of the day from selling stuff and all they want to do is kick of their shoes, relax and snooze out the rest of the day.
