Cat Lice

Has anyone ever had any experience with lice on cats? Were they hard to get rid of? I believe both of my cats somehow have lice and I'll be making them a vet appointment tomorrow but I just wanted to get your input on the subject. I had originally thought that they were fleas but they don't jump, they crawl through the fur and that seems to be in line with the descriptions of their behavior that I found online. I gave both of them a bath today with flea and tick shampoo and it seemed to kill the majority of them but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I feel awful for the poor kitties :(

Have experienced that before but the worst part of it is they multiplied inside the house and they also bite me resulting in some rashes. It's right to wash your babies with flea & tick shampoo but I think our nearest vet has this liquid type of solution you pour on their neck and/or collars and after few days the pests fall off. As for the house infestation, my mom mopped the entire house with clorox and it works fast.

They'll both be going to the vet on Wednesday and today I'll be applying Frontline to both of them at the suggestion of the vet when I called today. Hopefully that takes care of it. As for the house, I'm going to clean like crazy today and hope it works, otherwise I'll probably be doing some sort of powder or spray to the entire house to make sure I get them all and they never come back again.

Yikes! I've never heard of cat lice before. I had a friend once that had a white cat that had fleas and you could see the fleas crawling through it's fur sometimes, like around it's ears where the fur was thinner....but then again, maybe they weren't fleas. Maybe they were lice and I assumed they were fleas. Good luck with your little kitties. =)

They're roughly the same thing as the lice that humans can get but apparently the type of lice that infects cats doesn't infect humans so I suppose that's a plus. The treatment also appears to be the same for lice as it is for fleas but I guess I'll see what the vet says this week. Thanks!
