As Asian, and a Filipino, rice is a staple food for me. However, as much as I want to eat rice, it is also the culprit for gaining weight. There are viands which I can not eat without rice. What can you suggest that I can have instead of having rice every meal?

Asians have eaten rice for hundreds of years and not gained weight. I would wonder what you eating with the rice. That is probably the problem, not the rice. They had a notice on the news the other day that stated that rice has arsenic it at an alarming level. I think it is hooey and that if we quit eating everything we hear something like this about we would starve. lol Also a good rule to measure all things is all things in moderation. Then there isn't a problem.

You can try to have other dish that doesn't need any rice.
Like spaghetti, pansit and the likes.
But if you can't stand long without rice- then, keep the regular meal and exercise more to lose weight.

I think I cannot eat viands without the presence of cooked rice except for the raw foods like salads. That is my problem. I eat a lot but I did not gain weight. I guess, you should try also to eat root crops solely and corn sometimes. Those are rich in carbohydrates also.
