I know I might get some flack for this... but I watched the Avengers for the first time last night. I really wanted to see it back when it was in the theatres through the summer, I had heard a bunch of good things about it. The movie is so action packed! The effects are so crazy! It's so much fun! I had heard that the plot was minimal, but I didn't mind that idea, I wanted wild and crazy action scenes more then plot, anyways. So, I was excited to finally see the movie last night.
But, I was not so excited, even after 10 minutes into the movie. In the very beginning, they're using some unknown, mystical power device, which just so happens to open a wormhole, which just happens to pull out Loki, the antagonist from Thor. I would call Thor the worst of the lead up movies out of all of them, and putting people into the comic characters from that one is just overly cheesy, which it was.
After that starter action scene, it is all boring dialog for the next 40 minutes. It does not go by the starndard rules of scripting, pieces are too long, too boring... I'm amazed it even made it to production.
Then, I saw what was just the worst to me. The gang is on an aircraft carrier, and it starts to rumble... they think it'll turn into a sub, but it actually grows out propellers and starts to fly. THAT COULD NOT HAPPEN! The ship is gigantic, the propellers are small, you can't lift off something that big with such low force! Super-heros, I'll take, dimensions to another universe, I'll take, but getting basic physics wrong? I yelled at the screen!
The next action scene starts with the bad guys closing in, but the main antagonist is just stupid and messes up, knocking out 1 propeller on the giant ship, AND IT STILL FLIES JUST FINE! Thats even more impossible! I was so ticked off... I started skipping through the movie, and every little skip ahead, it was more cheesy and/or stupid action scenes, to long, drawn out, terrible dialog, over and over. The good guys win the day easily, like we knew they would, and everything goes back to normal.
I would call it, the worst movie I've seen this year. If there's something you liked about it, then tell me, because I feel like I really wasted my time seeing it.

just point per point reply here ...
first..have u seen all the film from this series..{in correct sequence IRON MAN ,HULK ,IRON MAN 2 ,THOR,CAPTAIN AMERICA AVENGERS... or maybe in that sequence but have u seen it all?? especially the extra scene after the end credits is way essential for the next part..of this series.
yeah..some dialogues here are cheesy..typical American hero..will triumph etc..Avengers to me is just those brainless FUN movie..its just purely for Fun and entertainment..guess u noticed that already.. and it did too big at the box office..not to my liking..but hey..probably it was released at the right time..when plenty of people eager to be hypnotized by Avengers..
about the flying ship thing.. i think the propeller is pretty huge..and very powerful..if u recalled the moment Iron man was trying to kick starts the hydroelectric powered propeller by pushing them around in hi-speed.. and probably it able to fly..mostly ..my theory..its made of highly hi-tech material..probably similar to Titanium..very light weight..but hard..and indestrutible but lite enuff to float in midair ..
and..about what i like about it.. well..nothing important..personally ..i just watched it to put an end to the seires that ive been watching over a period of 5 years lol..sadly..heard theres gonna be another sequel..:) guess..i will still gonna have to be in the cinemas..to see the continuity of this series..

I have seen the majority of the movies, my favorite of them all being Iron Man 1, and Thor, I saw, but I felt similarly about it to the avengers, I more skipped through it because it was really cheesy and not that good.
The whole reason that it came out, was because there is one thing that works the best for box office, and that's sequels. The best example is Harry Potter, number 7.5 had the highest gross box office, and the further back the movies go, the less money they made. Of course, even the first one is in the top 20 of highest grossing movies of all time, but the more they made, the more money they made.
For the flying ship, the propellers weren't that big... they weren't much bigger then the propellers on a large helicopter, but even for those, a huge part of it's mass is the propeller itself, because you need it to be as lightweight as possible for it to fly. An aircraft carrier is freaking gigantic, and to make that fly, you would need the propeller to be in the center, and expand to around double the diameter of the ship that it's lifting. With the size of the propellers, it shouldn't even be able to carry the people and airplanes, let alone the whole carrier, which is the largest part of the mass. Then, one of the propellers breaks? That would make the whole thing crash, instantly. Even if, somehow they had enough power to lift off, slow down one of them, even by 5%, and that section would start falling, which would make all the other ones over power it, and it would start to spin, and drop.
I just got so ticked off at that movie... way to many problems, and not a good antagonist, and it was just really bad. I was hoping for more, it was supposed to be such a great movie, and I was really let down.

I enjoyed the comic relief he brought too... :) and I think it was a well-rounded movie because all the characters played roles which were relevant to the overall plot of the movie. :)
Even the effects were great, in my opinion. :D

Actually i was disappointed with that movie. One think that i really like is the action from Iron Man and HULK.So crazy and cool. But i do not like Captain America character. He always think that he was a leader but still less in action.Do not have super power like the others.I always hope someday the producers will continue to produce The Avengers 2, with Batman,Superman and SPiderman in one action.

the only part i like is the last battle. action. other parts? It's too bad i didn't regret if i sleep for earlier half of the movie. i fall asleep in the middle, my friend woke me up just to watch that hulk guy coming slowly on small bike, and they start the action. i just watch because there's that guy that play hawkeye.

It's so sad that you didn't like the movie. All of us are entitled to our own opinions, anyway. But for me, i lied all of it! I liked Captain America, hawkeye and of course, ironman!

I enjoyed the Avengers, I thought it was pretty fun. I'm no hardcore Marvel comics fan, but I've seen a number of the recent films and enjoyed most of them. I don't think the dialogue parts were boring, I found them funny and engaging for the most part. I don't know anything about physics in relation to how the airship would work, it didn't seem totally implausible to me. But I didn't expect to learn any real physics from a movie anyway. Maybe your line for suspension of disbelief is lower than mine.
The only thing I didn't really buy was Thor being able to show up and then it was hand-waved with a short one-lined explanation from Loki about his father using lots of dark magic. I thought that was kind of weak.
I wouldn't say it was my favorite movie of the year, but it was one that I liked and I could watch it again a few times.

It's a pretty nice movie to watch, but it's not what we can call an epic movie like Lord of the Rings, that we can see endless times and never get tired of it. The action scenes were pretty nice but it was a bitty boring overall. The reason why it was so famous, was because it brought together lot's of big actors and action heroes, just like The Expendables
