Because I hate to shop I only go once a week to Walmart and once a month to Costco, but the price of things is getting so high I think I will have to go more often and spend less. What are you doing to spend less at each shopping trip? Or don't you worry about it?

Hi,
I don't hate shopping. But you are right. The prices of things doing higher and higher and we should lessen our spending on shopping. So it would be better to go for a shopping once in a month.

I've been living and teaching frugality for quite a few years now and some of the things I do are really helping. First, I don't buy anything disposable unless it's really necessary. I made a lot of handkerchiefs from an old sheet, made cloth napkins, use rags for cleaning and so on. That means I don't buy Kleenex, paper napkins or paper towels at all (except that I buy Kleenex for company).
I watch sales closely and don't go to the store unless there are good sales on. I eat simple foods and am not even familiar with a lot of processed foods that people buy these days. Honestly, I did a survey where they asked about buying several "foods" and I didn't even know what they were!
I hate to shop unless I know there are good deals to be had, but I limit the money I spend.
I always have a list of things I need or things that I want to find on sale to stock up a little. I think that helps when I get to the store, because it's easy for me to forget. I sometimes do without until I can find a sale. It isn't as hard as it might seem.
We used to live a half hour away from town and Mom didn't drive, so we went grocery shopping once or twice a month and if we ran out of things, we just did without. It isn't the end of the world and it does save money.

i don't mind shopping but i dislike crowds and because of health issues, i get tired pretty fast, so i always have to shop with a plan. i can't do marathon shopping trips like i used to and because we don't have much money, i tend to have to be really creative.
i always shop with a list and shop sales. that saves money.
i seldom 'impulse shop' unless it is a really good deal like $3.00 shoes at Walmart or unless i am in a thrift store.
i meal plan for a week (we take my inlaws grocery shopping every week so we generally get our groceries then.)
we do go to Costco but only once every few months. i buy in bulk there as well, that helps save money too.
these are a few things i do to save money when i shop.

I like shopping, but I will admit that spending money is something that I don't like at all so I am not shopping even half as much as I might have done in the past. One of the things that I do is to make sure that I look at all of the shops that have sales on before I leave the house, and I will make sure that I go to these shops because it will be these places where I can make the most savings. I also try to save a lot on my food shopping by buying things in bulk, and I certainly think that this is something that works for the best most of the time.

I stay away from the grocery store as much as possible. I hate the hassle of it, especially when it's crowded. I buy certain things in Bulk at Sam's Club and the rest I will just go where I see the sale. I use one day to do the shopping and for the rest of the month I am done.

I like to buy in bulk whenever possible, but find that I may have to do something else as well. I need perhaps to look for coupons and buy my paper goods on sale with a coupon instead of massive amounts at one time. Our best places to shop are all out of town, so we often combine errands and go do it all in one day. Usually I donate platelets as well as it is in the town where we save the most money.

When i shop at the supermarket I refrain myself from using the supermarket trolley instead I use their hand basket. This is to prevent me from piling the cart with unnecessary buys which I end up not using and making my house look like a mini mart. Since my present residence is just a stone throw from the biggest supermarket in this area I have decided to change my shopping to buy only when stock runs out. Afterall I can just pop in the supermarket at any convenient time. This way I can have better grip of my money as everything seems to be so expensive these days. I think the only way to combat all these escalating prices is to eat simple like our grandparents used too.

I have been trying to stay out of places like Walmart then I make a list and try to follow it instead of buying things on impulse. However today I did spend alot at the dollar store....napkins kleenex things like that but I stocked up and hopefully it will save me money in the long run.

I hate shopping, too. I'm going once a week to the grocery, we don't have any clubs near us and for just one person there's not much I can buy in bulk and use up before it gets stale, goes bad, etc.
I've cut out most of the treats I used to enjoy. I'm eating up a lot of things I've had in the cupboard like cereal, oatmeal, etc. I'm eating soup this week, all it took was a couple of ham hocks because I already had the beans. I was shocked to see how much meat is! I bought some marked down chicken and froze portions to cook later.
It'll be cheap foods like I grew up on--chicken and dumplings, soups, chili, vegetables with a little meat, etc. I don't see having a hamburger when I can stretch that meat over 2-3 meals.
I did get a GREAT bargain, though. I needed a sweater as my old one was in tatters. I got a $10 Kohl's card in the mail and meant to shop for Christmas presents but didn't see anything anyone would like. I saw a sweater, though, marked down from $78 to $12 and with the card I got it for $2.14!! I love it and now I'll be warm. I spent less than I would at a thrift store and now I'll be warm all winter.

I'm like you I hate shopping of any kind, period. I'm not a normal female from what people have told me. We usually go and do a big food shopping once a month. I know the prices of everything is skyrocketing out of control and its very scary to me. My hubby does not seem to care about spending money when shopping.I have to control his spending because he just loves to spend spend spend. He likes to stock up when things are on sale but we don't have the storage for all of it. He drives me crazy when we go shopping. Then I tell him next time we have to go shopping you go by yourself. Then I cave in because I know if he goes by himself he will spend way to much once again.

I don't like going to Wal Mart at all I only go there for certain things and the first time they raised their prices I spent 70 dollars and when I got home my husband said what did you get that's all? I said well you haven't been there you need to go and see how ridiculous they have raised prices on everything. Now I use coupons and go to other grocery stores I use thanalong with the saving star coupons that automatically load on your card on the computer. I will have to go to 3 stores just to save and it isn't much gas I spend becasue all the stores are close to each other.

I have to be in the mood to go shopping, especially food shopping which I hardly ever do. Since I still live at home, my parents take care of the food shopping and go a few times a week. I think that when I live on my own and have to do my own shopping I'll look for coupons as well as sales inside the grocery store like buy one get one free's and other sales on food.
I've always seen extreme couponing and have always wished I could do that lol. But it looks very time consuming and I'd worry about the cashier hating me for having to scan all the coupons and take a long time at check-out. But Costco and Sam's are both good places to buy food in bulk, as long as it's not stuff that would go bad right away.

There are times that I also hate to shop, like when I am scouting for something to buy that isn't readily available with the rest of the mall crowds. But if its something that I have to buy for my own enjoyment, wow I know I'll have fun shopping. And oh, I hate shopping as well when I have very limited shopping money haha!
